Miniature Roses

Fischer, TX(Zone 8b)

I have some mini roses that I got from H.E.B. and potted up. They are doing really well, but need to be either re-potted or set out. Is this a good time of year to set them out in my area (Canyon Lake)?

Right now and late winter/early spring are the best times for planting roses. Here is a link to a discussion on miniatures http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/768037/
The above thread has some good links on growing minis.

Now that the weather is cooling off, the minis will be spending their energy by growing strong roots. Not sure what the first frost date is in your area, but be sure to mulch generously around the roses.

I'm about Zone 8b, but this is my first year here so I don't know when to expect the first frost. I think it will be some time. My minis are blooming right now; they have been very prolific. I hadn't considered roses very much, but these have done so well that I think I'll get some more.

my minis from HEB do well also. As a matter of fact, just today I asked the flower dept mgr why they didn't have any minis, I was so in the mood for a yellow mini.

this is a good time to replant. They are probably hardy in your winters, but I would recommend that you move them to the garage or some other protected area, especially since they will already be in transplant shock. Low temps shock might be more than these pretties can handle at any given time.

I've already set them out; they don't appear to have suffered any tp shock, or at least very little. They are yellow roses and have absolutely perfect flowers. I do wish I knew what variety they were. I've also ordered some more from the "John's Miniature Roses" site. I won't set them out until next spring. I'm really into xeriphytic plants, but these roses have really captivated me.
