Good day for playing plants?

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

It was for me, anyway. I played plants all day long!! Almost all of my greenhouse hoyas were root bound in their little pots (yea!), so a bunch got potted up. I had been to Lowe's early in the day, and my wonderful (and cheap!) DH was able to bargain the garden manager into giving me 30% off of a bunch of pots! Guess they figure everyone is done planting for the year....Here's the little pots I got at Lowe's..

The smaller hoyas went in those small pots - I moved some of the "medium" ones up, too....

And a few bigger ones....

I'm used to having plant envy but now I have greenhouse envy again. Wonderful set up you have! My former, long lost (wah) greenhouse never looked so good. Here is a photo of my former, long lost (wah) greenhouse. (We moved, greenhouse didn't)

WoW Karen, your greenhouse is amazing!! Were you able to get all of the dirt out from under your finger nails? I always seem to have dirt under my nails. I always notice it when I am out somewhere though. How embarrassing! HA! What a super fun way to spend your day!

I love all of the pots. I should say, you should definitely get a bulk buyer discount when getting that many all at one time! Ha. Good for you, and double kudos for Bob!!

I love seeing your plants and your setup......................so tidy and clean...........could you tell me when to know what goes in a hanging basket and what goes in those pots like you have? Also, could you tell me what the soil mix is that you use................thanks so much.............

****You can tell I have my first 10 hoyas...........some big and some cuttings rooted..........don't know the next step..............

Karen, boy those are some great photos. Its pretty hard to compete with greenhouse growing. If I had a year round greenhouse, I would want it to look just like yours.

WOW Karen, you grow girl! That is clearly the most organized greenhouse I have ever seen! Everything looks wonderful!

Well I have to add ditto to everyones comments about your fabulous greenhouse set up Karen!!! And the pots you picked were some I had my eye on last time I was at Lowes :)))) they look great!

Now I have to know, is everyone of those hoyas a different one?? Just curious?? :)))

I just noticed something. How come there is not a lot of hanging ones like in most everyone else's greenhouses?

Thanks everyone for your nice comments - it's fun having a place to come to get encouragement and support after working - I really mean playing!! - all day!! I do tend to be a little OCD, and I guess the greenhouse reflects it!! LOL
Shirley - the pots are 4.5" and are ceramic. I usually grow in plastic, but I had such a problem this summer with everyone falling over - I'd just had it. So I'm going to try these pots, and watch the roots carefully.
Joanne - no wonder your name is epiaddict!! How you must miss that greenhouse - it looks beautiful!!
Gail - it's a matter of preference for me - I like the "fuller" hoyas in hanging pots, and the more "viners" in pots with trellises. For soil mix, I use ProMix soil, with perlite and orchid bark mix. I think it was TamiF who posted that she puts half perlite in the bottom half of her pots, and I do that now also, with great results - the roots seem to really like it!
Brenda - yes, they are all different hoyas (except some small ones I'm rooting in the back) - it's not called an addiction for nothing! And I have it bad! You all post a beautiful picture of a hoya, and I suddenly "need" it!!
Marcy - Almost all of my hanging baskets are on my screened-in porch. I have a shade cloth in the greenhouse, and the way I have it attached blocks the poles for hanging baskets.
Thanks everyone!

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! your mix is exactly (believe it or not) what the lady at Lowe's told me. She personally grows hoyas............you are a big help with several of your growing tips for us...........

Prescott, AZ

OMGosh, Karen, I thought I had OCD, but you have it way bad. Everything looks just marvelous. Like you I hate those tippy pots, and well I can't even tell ya the word that flies out of my mouth when I tip one off the top shelf, or pull one hoya only to find that the stem has grown over to another hoya and I end up pulling two or three of the shelf. This is a much brighter, happier view of your plants than the frosty photo's. Makes me smile to see the beautiful come back.

Joanne, you must of hated to leave your GH behind. What a lovely photo. Who knows there could be another one in your future.

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Gail - glad to pass on any tidbits I've learned!

Tami - Thanks! Whenever I'd water, or just "play" with the plants, one would fall over, then another.....I was so tired of plant dominos!!

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

I lurk here, but just had to come out and say WOW! That is one beautiful greenhouse full of beautifully kept plants.

PlantMomto3 - thanks, I appreciate your kinds words! And, don't just lurk, come out and play with us!!

Karen, I agree with all the above comments - what an amazing setup! If I had a greenhouse (or should I say WHEN I have one) I would keep it organized and neat just like that. I also love the look of the ceramic pots, and I love that each table has it's own pot style. Very nice :)
