There's a vine eating my fence!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm actually okay with that if it is a friendly vine.. The fence is ugly anyway. The back yard gets really swampy when it rains - which means we haven't been able to get out there much all summer! This thing suddenly appeared about a month ago, but I hadn't been able to get out to it, and now it is HUGE!! Could you all look at this and tell me if it is safe to leave there or if our neighbors are going to be calling us to complain?

Hmm.. It did have a few flowers on it the first time I noticed it. They were darker purple and covered in wasps, so I didn't get very close. I'll have to go back out and look again. :-)

If it is wild morning glory, you'll probably want to remove it because it will reseed like crazy. I let it grow at my house, but my closest neighbor is 100 yards away. It is a beautiful, easy-to-grow, native perrinial that bees love. Every morning the bumble bees visit each new flower at my house. They look so funny when they squeeze their fat little bodies down into the throat of each bloom.

Save me some seeds if you see any!!!!
BTW is that photo upside down?

ROFLOL Marylyn_Tx----your title got me cracking up! :) What do ya'll do when you have such plants covering a fence and the fence needs repair/replaced? Anyone have to do this yet?

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

You can usually cut them back in the fall, replace the fence, and next spring they should come back.

I am very interested in the native MG species, so I would love some, broncbuster! SASE?

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Pardon my internet ignorance....what is SASE?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Oh sorry! Do you want me to send you an envelope with postage and my return address....or will the seeds be ready later in the fall?

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

They are ready now. Give me your address and I'll send them. How many do you want?

Umm.. I thought I turned the picture the right way, but it could be upside down, Beth. LOL Now I'll have to check. :-) If I see any seeds, I'll send them to you, too.

My neighbor is a lot closer than that (more like 10 yards away). I should make sure at least that the monster fence-chomping MG is not gnawing on their fence, too, huh? :-) The funny thing is, I tried growing MGs (on the other side of the backyard) a couple of years ago and none of them came up. Maybe I'll try again on this side next year!

Thanks, everyone!! :-)

Wild morning glories have eaten our veggie garden, several rose bushes, and are working on an oak tree. With all the rain, they got way ahead of us this spring and when the rain slowed up, we had no time to garden. I am trying to rid my acre of them, showy evening primrose, and beggar lice. Then I'll worry about briars and wild grape vines. It's a jungle out there!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

See I love the showy evening primerose... I like to to grow a little everywhere...

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I can't see any.......! LOL!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Well maybe in my garden things like the promerose have to fight for space and they just fill in here and there...

here and there...

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Sorry Mitch, lol I thought you meant to post a picture and forgot it. It is late and my brain only works in the morning!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)
