Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I am not familiar with this plant...is it hardy in zone 7B? Is it a Canna?

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

Janet, It's a banana plant. I'm not real sure this is the correct ID for this banana plant. I posted a picture for an ID and that is the name I was given. Musa Velutina grows real good for me in zone 8, but information on this plant states it is only hardy in zone 9 and above. This plant will die back after the first frost, but returns each spring. I mulch all my banana plants. Some, living in colder climates grow bananas year round in pots.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I have several different Hibiscus Seeds, all are the hardy type...and MG seeds too..are you looking for any particular color MG? I would not mind trying to grow those, they are just beautiful! Have you grown them from seed? Do they send up pups each year too? A friend of mine says his send up babies too..lol

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

Janet, Any color of hibiscus or M.G. will be fine. I've had fair luck germinating banana plants from seed. The banana plant itself sends up pups each yr., but I keep a heavy pinestraw mulch around my plants & gather the seed, so not real sure about seed drop making banana pups.
Thanks for the trade and sharing your seed with me.

Those red star hibiscus are so pretty. Darn they won't be hardy for my zone.

Dothan, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi Dollie,

I could not have been more surprised by this flower....I was given some seed in march or so, and 10 sprouted great....but they grew so so slow, and then I planted them in the ground and they still grew slow. The ones I moved after first planting are only a foot high so I would say they don't like to be moved....They will grow up to 5 feet or more, but light and airy, and it looks like the flowers will be all on top. So find a good spot for them and water and fertilize well and they will bloom the first year....I need to go out and see if any other blooms opened today...I am so slow today.....

Thanks for your Seed....

Have a great weekend
Gail

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks

Yes they do come back! I have a really nice "dinner plate" type that is deep burgunday. I also have a nice yellow..I have several different ones I will send you some Gail! I am going to get a box of goodies for you in the Fall so I will send them then..okay...
