Blooms falling off

West Bay, Cayman Islands(Zone 11)

Hey all, just a quick question. My newest bloomer seems to hold the bloom for one day and then they drop off. Is this indicative of the cultivar?

thanks in advance,
john

Hi John, the flowers are lasting only one day? They should last for a few days up to a week. Not enough water can make them wilt, and too much water from rain can knock them off. What are your weather conditions right now?

Thanks for the quick reply Miss Clare, we have sunny mornings but afternoon storms with fairly hard rain....This could be the cause, as it rained fairly hard yesterday...There are numerous new flowers today, I will see how long they last...also, the other day i noticed brown blotches on some of the leaves, possibly a fungus or something??? Thanks again for all the help...

John, brown blotches on the leaves could be from sun scorch from drying winds and/or not enough water. If your soil is super well-draining, then it made need more water for awhile until it gets established. I forget how close you are to the sea, but it could also be a reaction to salt if they are getting any spray. If these are lower leaves that just get that way before falling off, that is normal. As new leaves come in from the top, the lower ones will turn yellow and brown and fall off. It sounds like maybe the rain is knocking your flowers off. The flowers themselves don't last very long, but as old ones fade and fall off, new ones open.
