Hello, I garden in Oklahoma Zone 7A. I have sandy soil. My rosemary started with parts turning brown, and gradually it's all turning brown. The thyme did the same and now the lavender is starting. Would this be from too much water or too little? Or something else entirely?

In my experience, browning like this usually leads to complete death of the plants. I live in the desert southwest and this usually happens during our rainy season, when temps are high and humidity is also high. These herbs just don't like the humidity and the soil stays wet and hot during this time. So, I'd say it was probably too much water but I don't have all of the facts about your weather and watering habits. Another factor that can contribute to this is a lack of adequate sun.
My rosemary (both trailing and upright) have been o.k. for years. I have it in semi dry soil and sheltered from the afternoon sun. A friend grows his in open sun but sandy soil. Neither of us water ~ it is catch as catch can with rainfall. I would guess moisture would cause it for you.
Now, with my thymes and oreganos, I walk a fine line. They will start dying from the soil up in the heat/humidity of summertime. On that point, I will agree with you Momherb.
Thanks for the feedback. Do you think that the heat is an important part of the problem? In the Spring we had tons of rain, and the plants (except for the thyme)were fine. This summer, I didn't water much, but when I did, it was deep. Recently we had a big rain, and now lots of stuff, not just the herbs, is turning brown. Is the heat making the difference in how the plants can handle the wet?
