N.C. Gourd Society Festival

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Went to the Gourd Festival in N.C. Had a wonderful time and seen some wonderful gourds crafted... Also a very good cheap place to buy them... I did not spend over 3.50 a gourd... They had tons...
Hope no one minds but I am sending pictures of some...

cool. There is a gourd musuem somewhere in Angier, NC I think (southeast of Raleigh about 40mins). It's a lifetime collection of gourd items. You pull into the parking lot, loof for the shed, turn on the light and look around. When your're done, you turn off the light and lock the door. Very country, walk-in and help yourself kinda museum, but interesting non the less.

Rebecca,
Do you know the name of it? I like day trips... LOL We were suppose to go to the RU in Maryland but hubby's work made that not happen... Then Drangonfly (Terry) Called and asked if I wanted to drive with her to the Raleigh(sp) RU and said no cause made plans to go to the Gourd Festival... They had some wonderful grouds ... I liked the person who did the last 3 I sent here... He had wonderful things... He is the only one I bought a finished gourd from... It was small and has a turtle on it and it was 8 bucks... I loved it...

Hi Susan51,

Try http://www.twincreek.com/gourds/museum.htm Also it comes up by doing a google search of "gourd musuem nc". It's listed on www.roadsideamerica.com as well.

If you do visit from VA, I would make sure you have other things to see as well. I'd hate to think you'd drive all the way from VA. :) enjoy.

I'm glad you posted about this thread, since I don't often find my way over to this forum...

The festival looks like such fun, and you got some great photos! I really love the "natural" colors and themes in the last 3 you posted. Somehow, woodburning and wood stains (if that's what he used) seem more in tune with gourds than paint does to me. Is that your turtle gourd in the second one?

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I like his the best... I have more pictures of his.. His work was beautiful... Close but that is not mine... I think I took a picture of mine also..Let me go look.... LOL Ok that is the picture of the turtle I got by mine is a little diffrent... This is what I did instead of going to your house.. Sorry this I could drive to...LOL Next time I am coming.....

Oh My Goodness!!! Those are soooo Gorgeous! I Love them all .... but, especially that first one .... Looks like a Thomas Kinkaid painging! And .... What can I say about that Blue one .... The Birdhouse! I collect Birdhouses and that one is Gorgeous! I have one Gourd Birdhouse hanging out in a tree in the backyard ... but it's just the plain brown gourd, not painted fancy like that!

Susan .... on one of those cards, did it by chance give the person's name and maybe an address or website address???? I know sometimes folks who go to craft shows like that have little home web businesses too. If there's any info on the card let me know, okay?

Ooooh ... I just love craft shows and fairs! We should have some coming next month .... usually in the fall they are around.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

No URL's just a name and entry number .. Those were for showing and it won a ribbion... I have others also I will try to post later... Yes I loved the blue one aslo.. Also a humming bird one...LOL

They are so nice Susan! If you are going to hang them outside in the weather, you should probably spray them with some kind of sealer to protect the painted pictures.

Where was this? I missed it.

I love gourds. These are really pretty. I have a gourd and think I will try something creative. To bad I don't have a very creative mind well I have idea just can't seem to draw or paint. Love the picture so keep them coming.

(Zone 1)

Makshi, I am like you .... I don't have a creative bone in my body. Can't draw or paint, can't even draw a straight line! ...... hee hee, I even write crooked!

Thank you for Sharing, Susan! I just love anything to do with gourd art! I wish I were closer to Raliegh so I could have attended! I am just now finding out about the Georgia Gourd Society, and will be getting in touch with them. Maybe then I can get updates on Festivals and shows, so I can enjoy first hand too!
