Begonia lovers, please help

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lucky me received two great begonias in a trade..........the first one I have no questions about because she is a nice cane.............

Look at this gorgeous plant and she sent the roots to me..............what do I do now............the leaves are really dehydrated..................

look at the size of these leaves..................she almost looks like a giant Whirlpool begonia and she was growing in the ground for blueglancer.................

I'd pot it up, water, mist foliage, and close it up in a large plastic bag with air blown into it. It should perk up within a day's time. I save bags that pillows and other large items come in for just for this purpose. You could also try setting the potted begonia inside another container with something like moist coir, peat moss, or sphagnum moss in the bottom of it.

Hope this helps.

thanks..............gail.....................I potted it up down at the bottom of a big pot..........letting the stems and leaves rest against the top with a giant size zip lock...............we shall see...........I also just for fun stuck a couple of leaves that had broken.................

That is a beauty Gail! Beautiful big leaves! The leaves do remind me of the Whirlpool leaves. I had a couple of leaves break off mine and I cut them into pieces with a nice big vein in each piece and then put them down like an AV leaf and all the pieces grew babies!

I have been sending out leaves of her and people are meeting with success in rooting her.........................let me run take a picture of her..........she is a rhizome.................the reason her leaves aren't very big is because everytime a leaf gets real big I take her off (LOL_

I didn't get her bigger leaves at the bottom in the pic...........it is overcast today and couldn't find light

No I can't...........................i butchered my episcias earlier this summer and they look like you know what..........they are out on the front porch......................Jan says i can just take leaves and start all over...........wonder who I butchered my episcias for???????? a very good friend................

Gee, I can't imagine who would be so special as to cause you to do that... *flutters eyelashes* ;o)

Are they not putting out stolons for you? One of mine looks fine and three don't look so hot, but they're starting to put out stolons. I figure the main plant isn't long for the world, but if I can just keep them alive long enough for the stolons to get big enough to root, all will be well. I've got quite a few different Episcias, so I'll share stolons with you when they're big enough.

I am not getting any stolons.......................none whatsoever.................oh well, another day Iwill tackle my episcia wreck................

I'll have to go look at mine and see what they're doing. You know if I've got something you can count it as something you've got, too, because I'll send you whatever you want. :o)

I am not worried about episcias during the winter months..............

How is the rooting coming along?

(Zone 1)

Oh what a Beautiful Begonia! Love those leaves!

Gail: I had a big problem with Episcia's .... I only have a few small ones and they all came from trades. I felt so bad because they just were not doing well and really looked awful, with the exception of E. fimbriata 'Blue Heaven' ... that one is doing fine in a pot of soil. Anyhow, I read on the forum somewhere and I don't remember who posted it .... but I put all of the little Episcia's in Glass containers .... some in just plain moistened LFS and some in soil with the LFS on top of the soil, around the base of the plants. If the containers didn't have a lid, I put a plastic bowl over the top or saran wrap on the top to keep in the moisture and put them on the stand under the lights. They are all doing GREAT and seem to have perked up big time with roots going crazy! So .... Whoever posted that advice ... a HUGE THANK YOU! I am hoping to get them to the point of blooming for me.

Lin.................I am just now poking around on DG.........kids are watching movie here at home......................That is what i did the other day with my episcias..........took the good ones and left them wicked and they are doing fine.........took the weaker ones , took cuttings and started all over in a giant terrarium and they seem to be fine...........

I just started one leaf when i got that begonia and she seems to be doing fine........under glass of course.................
