But I really AM a stick!

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Found this lil fellar this am while trimming back spirea shrubs. Good thing I learned to pay attention while gardening. I could have snipped him along with the stems. It's really committed to it's role as a stick....didn't even budge when I touched it with my finger nor moved the whole time I was out there.

Wow, P, are you sure? That looks like a stick to me. LOL

Where's his legs?

That is really cool. I know I would have mistaken it for a stick, no doubt!!

It's holding onto the stem with a couple pair...I didn't look to see where the rest were.I'll check today if it's still on the plant.

Definately good act he's got going there! Did you get him identified yet? When you do, you should post him in the Bug Files. That is a great shot.

P, that could be a Maple Spanworm Moth cat, maybe:

Big Red,
I got a charge out of your lead-in to this thread. I don't know why it really has made me chuckle. However, I know zilch about these caterpillars, so I can't add anything to your topic!!! 8-((

You must know those very well. I looked and looked and all I saw was a stick.

As luck would have it,I had been looking at a webpage early that morning before I went outside to work and that was the first cat that I saw on the page. I mean, that had to be a millon to one chance.

It does look like that one P.

It almost looks like his cocoon, see the silk attaching his left side, isn't that strange?

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

I saw that. I wasn't sure if it was his/her's or just a random string of silk.
