Brooke was just a year old when I picked her up on Tuesday. She is ( contrary to the owner/breeders insistance) a sable merl e with lovely coloring but she sure has a lot of issues - old scars and scabs all over from scratching we think ( and some new ones since she has been with me) , a very thin coat(basically no undercoat) which is very rough, no hair on inside of her ears which are also slightly misshapen along the edges rather small eyes and a history of extreme reaction to her first puppy shots ( as did Mom and a sibling we are told)
I dont think she has ever had a collar or leash on or been walked. She is very sweet and loves to cuddle but to get her in or out of the house I have to pick her up. Getting her back in is particularly difficult ( took me almost an hour last evening) and I now leave a long leash on her all the time When I tried to walk her she just dropped dead weight. Going to the vet today I again had to carry her.
She is not spayed and it is quite posssible she might even have had a litter. We have taken 9 pups and 3 young adults from this person( who is being evicted from her rental house) and she still has more including a bunch of Llasa Apsos. The house stank of pee and we have had some really craxy stories about the dogs - can;'t believe anything she says. Now that we have these dogs out of the house our rescue director will call the Humane Society to suggest they go in and check out the rest of the dogs - the pups all had worms and other things.
Anyway Brooke obviously has a skin disorder but we dont think it is DM. Have an appointment with a vet/dermatologist in 10 days to hopefully get a definative diagnosis so this sweet thing can be treated and then we can look for her forever home.
