what are these little worms in rocks at waterfall

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I have small worms, about 1 inch brown things, under many of the rocks at my waterfall. There may be 20 or so in a group and under different rocks at the waterfall location. I can take a picture tonight but wanted to post while I'm thinking about it. They are not getting wet from the water but I don't see them at other spots along the stream. Any idea?

They can either be water leeches.....or red worms. If they are leeches, they are usually browner, and fairly common. They come in with plants, etc.... If they are the red worms, it's also normal, and a very good thing (your water is healthy) Red worms can also be found in your filter media.

Kathy, Are those wormy-looking things segmented? I get them in the waterfall and the fish love them. In fact, if the fish hear and see me at the falls, they wait at the foot of the falls,in anticipation as I flush them down the falls and into their eagerly waiting mouths. They munch and munch and munch some more. It is so funny to watch:)

Oh, I don't know what they are. I have only 4 'goldfish' in my pondless basin but plan to do otherwise next spring. I want a few fish, 5 or so. However, my 1 inch gold fish are about 5 inches long now, thanks to all the algae, etc in the stream.
