I've never seen a snail like this:

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Found it on my front steps this morning. Anyone know what it is? I must have brought it home in a plant, I've never seen one like this around here.

Awwww, I know without a doubt my kids would keep it as a pet! LOL I'm sure it's some sort of tropical snail. Lie to me and tell me you didn't smash it.

I have about a gazillion of those down here and they do chew large holes in some plants. I toss them into the street and let them take their chances. They must have a name but for the life of me I can't remember it.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

i remember seeing a few of those around here too

If I ever eat escargot, it will be I don't know what I am eating or I am out of my head. Gourmet I'm not if escargot is gourmet.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

They make for nice photos. :) (I think this is the same kind, anyway.) This was taken in spring. I imagine he's larger now. ;->

Looks like the same kind, you mean he still roams??

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

:-) Probably. He wasn't actually eating that fern he was on, so I let him be.

Euglandina rosea, They are native to the Southeastern US.

Actually they eat other snails and also eat slugs!

You might want to leave him. I fight the other snails in my garden but keep the few rosies I can find. If you lived in Hawaii you might have a problem because they would eat the native species but you are within the native range.

Hi Linda,
Very interesting, because I had never seen this snail until it's first appearance last year, and now...all of the stripped snails that use to eat the daylilies are non existent..haven't seen 1. These are now, the only snails I see around the garden...so weird!

I wish I saw more of the rosy wolf snails....and I wish they would start eating roly-polys (pillbugs)

I could use a few less of those! They eat decaying matter, all right, but also love tender new growth....
