CLOSED: 07 GARDEN FRIENDS BULB/RHIZOMES/CORMS etc. SWAP

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

Garden Friends 5th Annual Bulb Swap
We have been holding this fun event for several years now and it just gets bigger and better.
Last year over 1000 bulbs were divided up among the participants. This year should be even bigger and better as word gets out about it.
Sept 1st-Oct.15th are the dates to send your bulbs, rhizomes, corms, etc. Please remember that the box you send your bulbs in is most likely the box you will be getting back, only filled with a variety of fun bulbs.
You need to include postage in the same amount as it costs you to send to me. No postage is due if you drop off and pick up your bulb swap.
Here is how it works:
You send me a box of bulbs/rhizomes/corms etc along with postage amount that's the same as it costs you to send to me. Make sure bulbs are sent between Sept. 1st and Oct. 15th. Please mark the bulbs you are sending. The bulbs you receive will have the name of the bulbs plus the person that sent them name attached. Bulbs will be sent out no later than Oct. 22nd. You can also include a list of bulbs you would like to receive. Please NO common orange daylilies or ditch lilies, NO common purple iris please. Hardy and tender bulbs accepted.

Hi! I have a few questions. Do these all have to be "named" bulbs? Do you have to send a bunch of the same bulbs or can they be one of a bunch of different kinds of bulbs? Also, would you accept a packet of a bunch of bulbets along with other bulbs that you're sending. And last but not least, how many fans should be on an iris or something that you're sending. As you can see, I'm quite ignorant when it comes to a box of bulbs :-). Thank you, this looks like fun and I'm trying to see if I have enough to participate! Andrea

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

You can send any kind, any amount. If you dont know the name just list what they are, daffodils, tulips, etc. yes, I accept bulbils along with other bulbs. one or more fans is ok too. Im sure you have enough to participate. You can always send a pack of paper lunch bags. I will add some extra bulbs to your box for them.
I hope you decide to join us.

Theresa,

If I send all hardy bulbs (zone 5, Maine) do I get hardy bulbs in return? I ask this only because I don't have the means to store bulbs which is why I don't grow dahlias, glads etc. I have no place to put them for winter storage so I have to grow bulbs that I can leave in the ground year round.

Kim

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

Kim, enclose a note saying you only want hardy to zone 5 bulbs and thats what you will get!
I try to make this bulb swap so that everyone can participate.
All I ask is that you send return postage, label your bulbs, include your name and return address. I hope you decide to join us.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Theresa, I was just out in the garden looking around and most of my bulbs I wouldn't know where to dig and the only ones that I will know where they are are the Asiatic Lilies and I only have 1 color so I will graciously bow out and maybe next year I will tag the darn things so that I can find them when it's time to play again :)

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

See ya next year then Kim. You will have all winter and summer to prepare for next year! Maybe I have even motivated you to label your bulbs!
have a good fall Kim...

Marion, WI(Zone 4b)

Hello Theresa - What size box should we send if particapating? I see that you said fans - I have many different kinds of daylilies can those be included? Some that aren't named. Would those be o.k.?
Thank you much!
~Kim

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

you can send any size you want, from just a few to a whole box full. Unnamed are ok too.
I'll be watching for your box! :)
Glad you are joining in the fun.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

I'm sent you a box of assorted bulbs that I grow in zone 5, drumstick allium, narcissus, daffodils, crocus, muscari, and solomons seal. As I will be in Florida for the winter by the time you send the box, might I have only those items designated for zone 11 or items I could give to my daughter in law as we will be having thanksgiving in KY.

I put a note in my package. Picture is of the allium and solomons seal. I think I have to send you a check for postage, DH mailed package for me. PLMK. Thank you
Mittsy

Hello Theresa, I should be sending my package out this week. I have been doing a big dig this weekend for one of my friends that is landscaping her new house. I will be sending daylilies (mostly unnamed) - and some irises (unnamed). See what all fits in the box - have a lot of them =-)

Also will probably include some crocus, maybe glads (they aren't hardy here so), and I have some English Iris bulbs that I just received but they will not winter here so I will include them also (Shades of Blue - then it says blue, white, purple... lol how those are shades of blue-IDK... lol)

This is a really cool swap... hope more people will be joining.

Thank you for doing this!!

Ive never included anyone else besides local neighbors and my garden group. This year I opened it up to more and have very good responses at all sites. If you know the color of the unnamed plants, please enclose that info.

Marion, WI(Zone 4b)

Teresa, could you let me know how much I need to send for postage? Thanks

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

however much it costs to send your package to me is the amount of postage you need to send, easy as that! You can send stamps or cash check or mo, your choice. i prefer cash check mo or paypal as i use internet postage, but can use stamps, choice is yours.
