Your advice, Bone or Blood

cedar rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

I have ordered a bunch of tulip bulbs and starting to plan where to put them ALL...(hee,hee)
Last year I plantted quit a few and noticed the squriels were digging them up.
Someone said to put Blood Meal around them along with Bone Meal.. Is this right?
I'm open for any advice...Thanks

Try Cayenne Pepper on the soil as well, but be very generous. The ground should be bright orange! I buy bulk, inexpensive spice for this.

Centennial, CO(Zone 5b)

We use well-soaked rabbit litter, donated from a local rabbit rescue operation. The urine repels the squirrels, and the litter itself is a good mulch/fertilizer

yes bloodmeal is said to discourage critters and is a good source of nitrogen

Would that be ground Cayenne Pepper, or would flakes do the trick as well?

Newmarket, ON(Zone 5a)

I'm not sure about the flakes. Can't see why it wouldn't. I like the powder because it provides good coverage acros the soil.

My mom has always used bloodmeal, she sprinkles it around the edge of the garden and around some plants. Be sure it doesn't directly touch the plants, it can burn them if there is enough of it.
The only time I tried bloodmeal my dog thought he was in heaven! He licked it all up (ugh!) so if you have dogs, you might want to rethink...

So how often do you need to reapply the cayenne pepper?
