ID cat please?

Can someone ID this cat for me? Found him on our Roger's Red grapevine this evening. Fat little character. Doesn't seem to be doing any damage so far.

There's a lot of Sphinxes that like grapes, but yours could be the Achemon Sphinx, because of the 6 oblique lines.

Here's a pic of the brown form:

Yours may be getting ready to pupate because I don't see the horn, they lose it in the last molt.

Right, no horn. Hope they don't come in droves - we really want that grape to grow! I gather they pupate in the ground, so we won't be able to watch.

Thanks, fly_girl.

Kaper, I just read the Achemon is unusual in that it loses it's horn after the first molt, so that guy probably hasn't had it a while. You could put him in a container with some potting soil and he should pupate there and you can see him emerge.

Oooh, that's a thought. I just went and looked and he is still there, though he moved up the vine a bit. Will see if we can fix something so we can watch him.
