When I'm out in the beds weeding, pruning, working the soil, or just looking at the beautiful plants, I almost always have a shadow. It's not the shadow that the sun casts, but a 2ft 6in shadow that is constantly singing a song, telling me to look at something, or cracking me up. My shadow is 2 years old and she is the best little helper I could ever ask for. I wanted to post this thread to showcase the future of Texas gardening. I'll start with a few pics of my daughter and I hope some of y'all will post as well. Please, be careful about the info that you post because we all know that there are predators lurking all around the internet. Feel free to post pictures and stories of kids in the garden or on the farm having fun being kids. Let's enjoy these precious gifts from God.
Monday, she was wearing her new boots that her Meme and Popop got her and she spotted the water coming out of the downspout. She couldn't resist putting her little hand under the trickling stream of cool water.
Future Texas Gardeners
My daughter really enjoys gardening with me also. She loves 'Max and Ruby' a television show about a brother and sister who spend a lot of time outdoors. Max is the little brother and usually ends up making a huge mess. In one episode, Ruby is carefully and diligently planting flowers, the whole time amending the soil with worms, pebbles, and healthy soil. Max likes to do his own thing and makes a worm cake out of soil, worms, and pebbles. So whenever I go gardening, my daughter wants to help by digging for worms to make a worm cake.
Her attention span is improving. Yesterday, she helped me plant seven rose bushes. We found lots of worms for a worm cake.
Those are adorable photos, Bronc. My daughter is 14 and can't be bother with the outdoors anymore. Lol My youngest still live outside during the Summer and are a constant source of garden amusement.
A few days ago I saw my boys carrying ham sandwiches and dragging chairs across the yard. I ask them what they were doing and where they were going.
Their response "we are waiting on the hummingbirds" like, duh.
CCT, where would we be without those delicious wormcakes?
Cocoa, when I was a teenager, I wasn't thinking about the birds and the bees you find in the garden either. I dread the day that my daughter starts liking boys. My shotgun is gonna be really clean through those years.
But up until the age of 13, I lived outside and I loved sitting outside with my Papaw watching the hummingbirds zipping around. Those kind of things stick with you.
The great thing about worm cakes is that they are good for the plants. Here is a link to a picture of my youngest daughter. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3861339
She's a Daddy's girl and wants to do everything I do---likes to watch me work in the yard.
If it's hot outside we go swimming. As soon as she sees me, she'll take off her shirt and point to the door leading to the pool.
We don't have a pool but my daughter does love the vwadda (water). The other day, we were cleaning her little red wagon with dishsoap and somehow it turned into a mobile bath for her with me as the chauffer.
Oh, you guys are so sweet, what loving parents you are!!! and those children are so adorable, it makes my heart glad to see such good things going on.
Josephine.
My "kids" are all of the feline variety. They do like to dig in the planters when I bring them into the living room for the winter.
Bronc, your daughter is a cutie and looks to have inherited your gardening gene. Cocoa, the picture of your two boys is adorable. May they never lose the wonder of waiting for the hummingbirds.

Carla, it looks like that cat was made for that planter! Great pic!
What a beautiful little girl you have, I can see that you are very proud of her and with good reason.
Thank you, Josephine! Yes, I love to show her off. Now that we have her little brother and mom spends so much time with him, she is really becoming a daddy's girl.
How old is your little boy?
Oh! he is adorable. Thank you for sending the picture.
Priceless expression. Is he thinking.....life is so good, I'm the center of attention and people bring me food and drink whenever I want it.....what is that camera thing? ......diaper change?
I think it's the latter, CCT!! It's a look of relief!
Awww.. He IS adorable!! :-)
