It is getting near the end of summer in zone 4, but things are looking good. I thought I would share some pictures.

Susan that looks great!!! It's already getting cool up there? We are still baking down here for probably another month or two. We haven't had alot of rain and all my stuff has been suffering from the drought as much as the heat.

First bloom on a Bougainvillea that I have had for several years. It is still hot here, but the nights are starting to get cooler, even into the fifties, so the end of summer is near. Some years we won't have the first frost until mid-October, but it could come at any time. Then the mad rush to get everything inside.

I love that Bougainvillea. I don't think I've seen one that red with the variegated leaves before. How do you winter it? Mine drop leaves and dies here even inside. They grow great for me outside but I don't even bring them in anymore because I know it's doomed.

Jeri,
I grow it in a pot with a trellis, and bring it inside when frost threatens. It stays the winter in a cool but heated sunroom, in a west window. It looses most of its leaves, and I give it some water. Towards spring, I prune it, start more watering, and then eventually take it back outside.

I have a much smaller green-leaved one, with white flowers, and that one I keep growing all year, and most of the blooms come in winter.

Don,
Thanks for the kind words; I think the trunk on the draceana happens when it gets too dry and the bottom leaves die off. The plant is about 3 years old.

I have that bouganvilla and I leave it outside during the winter. Now keep in mind we dont have severe winters in San Antonio but never the less it did ok. Of course all the leaves dropped but in the spring it bounced. You might cover it with a cloth or plastic (i use both) just to give it a little protection. It's a beautiful plant. Mine has bloomed almost all summer starting in the spring.

Snow???????? maybe snow cone.....LOL We get freak snow maybe every 20 years. Our biggest cold spells last 1 1/2 days and the temp is a joke compared to up north. But I love my city.
