canna 'Bengal Tiger'

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 4a)

I am so pleased with this plant; I bought it on clearance at a big box store for $2.97 in mid June, in a 4 inch pot in the pond section. It was not marked, but I think it is 'Bengal Tiger', and is more than 5 feet tall.

I got some of this from a trader but it hasnt bloomed yet. Would u know if the same leaf has different color blooms?

Anaid,
I don't know, but when I googled this canna, it showed orange blossoms or orange/yellow as mine are. And keep in mind that I just made a guess at what this plant is, based on what I googled. What color are you expecting or hoping for?

Im hoping for a very dramatic color that will attract attention from a mile away.......... lol

I don't think this is Canna Bengal Tiger it looks to be the sport I believe off of Bengal tiger called Tropicanna Gold. I did not buy into this at first the plants look to be identical. But after a few years of growing them I can now tell them apart. The most noticable difference is the yellow rip around the orange petals on the flowers. The leaves are also different. For most people you have to get a leaf off each plant and put them side by side to tell but they are different looking.
Here is tropicanna gold pictured.

Their is more green in tropicanna gold on the leaves and more yellow in Bengal tiger. I will look into getting a pic of a leaf side by side.

bwilliams,
Is your second picture also tropicanna gold? Yours seem to have a yellow central rib/vein, while mine is mostly green with touches of gold. Also, the orange of your flower is less mottled looking than the one on mine. Thanks for your input.

Mine is more like the first one. The second one's leaves are very yellow. I just wish it would bloom. Since mine are in large pots do u think leaving them out in a San Antonio winter would be ok?

Perhaps it is canna 'Florence Vaughn'?

blur_eyes,
Looking at the DG link, the leaves on 'Florence Vaughn' look to be solid green, though.

bwilliams, that is a beautiful canna!!!! I only have a small yellow one that I need to relocate. It doesn't get enough sun, and the lawn service weed eated it! arrrgh
growl.

My canna's leaves are much lighter than that. I love yours! Just beautiful! The leaves are similar to a variagated ginger that I have......Nice!
