Did anyone catch that CNN "I-caught" news blip on Sat. (I think) I saw about 1/2 of it. They were showing Brug plants & saying how in South America they are making a really bad drug out of Brugs, that renders a person unconcious in a very short time (minutes) it is air borne. They call it the Zombie Drug. I guess some Taxi drivers (& others) are using this to rob people, some have died.

I can just see our local over zealous sherriffs dept. raiding my brug plants!
They are raiding large amts of pot plantations right now, so they are all "geared"! Hopefully they were all out looking for pot fields & not watching TV on Sat.! I hope this does not cause problems with Brugs in the US!

Did not see it, but have heard it before. We have lots of nurseries here, and none grow brugs. Very few people in town know anything aout the beautiful blooms. I have shared plants here with a few older people, who just love growing them.
Four school kids tried a recipe with brug leaves and all went to hospital with heart and breathing difficulties.
That is sickening... I didn't see it, but I'm almost glad! The freeways are lined with Oleander, and some wanna scream.. Brugmansia is poisonous beware!
There was one of those stupid "miracle" shows on TV last year where a woman had a mysterious illness and it took a long time to discover but it ended up being the one brug in her yard.. it was something like her dog or cat that discovered the "plant from hell" that was killing her. Yeah, right..

The kids here are smoking salvias, I have absolutely no idea what cultivars, but there is a "head"shop here in town where the kids can get it free to try, because they have not made it illegal. The kids know more about this crap than the adults do. Why aren't these places closed? I'm new to Brugs and Datura, but I don't wanna stop growing them. What's next?
What has gone wrong with this world! Do children know, trying drugs of any kind will damage their lives for a long time, if not for good? I'm saddened to hear of the news.
They have to change the laws first before they can raid our brugs lol. Most nurseries here don't sell brugs either but Lowe's does but then again they were selling morning glory seeds and they are illegal in AZ LOL! Maybe it is don't ask, dont tell :P Some of the parishes in Louisiana do not allow certain types of brugmansia because the concentration of alkaloids is higher in the leaves. I was always afraid there that some one would raid my brugs but a lot of nurseries there sold them too.
ZZ babies~I know what you mean about the oleanders, there are lots of pediatrician offices in AZ with oleanders planted outside :D
oleanders are everywhere here too. dats are also used for drugs... the seeds of the one called jimsonweed are brewed in a tea... it causes auditory hallucinations, and you have temporary photophobia and other phobias
Unfreakinbelievable! If our kids didn't know about it, they will now.... sometimes all this news isn't a good thing.
It seems over the years they have picked on certain plants, Opium poppies is one. Of course at one time Marijuana was not illegal, Oleander, Dumb Cane, Pointsettias, all are poisionous, as well as many other plants we grow on a reg. basis. If they come for my Brugs, they gotta take all my Foxgloves too, they make a drug outta that, all my Willow, don't they make a drug outta the bark? They'll be busy for a couple of days here! LOL

well... i'm a kid aboutr the age where many kids get involved in drugs, an i think they are just stupid... the drugs that is... Never have i even touched one. i say if anyone is dumb enough as to smoke a poisonous plant or the like, that will ruin their life,so be it!

Bravos!!! DiehardSoutherner; I'm so happy to hear from such intelligent young gentleman like you out there. Talk to your peers, let them know, drugs will harm their livers. Like that of Car's engine's oil filters, they filter debris from the car's fuels. Human's livers filter all those wastes in our body system. The only difference is. Cars' filter can be replaced. Human livers? You've only one!
yep... i go to a christian private school called Hilton Head Christian Academy... we have random drug tests, and i was selected for testing tomorrow... no worries though, but even there people fet caught. my uncle got involved in that stuff... he committed suicide, so that serves as a warning for me, plus being a good wittness. i mean God cant do His work thru me if im a #########!
