John, we need your input. Thought we might do another thread as an adendum to "tis the season".
We are all worried and praying for your and Kate's safety. Already been checking out the carrib website.
Felix
Add my prayers. I've been thinking about and praying for you folks since I heard about Felix when I got back from Georgia.
As someone else stated on the Tis the season thread, I never paid much attention to these storms in the past, so long as they weren't headed for Texas. Now that my family is "out there" in the deep blue ocean I have tried to keep up with the tracking of these major storms.
Many hugs John and Katie. I love you much and will continue to pray without ceasing.
Janet
Dutch, realize that Florida gets more than a reasonable share of Hurricanes and Tropical Storms. Will be watching closer than ever until this raunchy season is gone.
Hi, Janet.
Hi Christy! Good to see you.
Hubby and I, along with his brother went to the deer lease today to put up a tree stand. We knew it was going to rain. We didn't know it was going to come down a gully washer! I had to drive one of the 4 wheelers quite a distance in that downpour. While it was wet and "cold" to drive, it brought back many memories of driving my old 3 wheeler in the pouring rain about 25 years ago, and loving every minute of it. Today, we 3 were like little kids, doing donuts in the mud!
I wish we'd stopped to think about the fact that we'd have to drive home in the truck, covered in wet and mud, for about 25 miles. I thought I was going to freeze to death! The temp wasn't really that cold, but it sure seemed like it scrunched down in the back seat of that little Toyota truck of Robbin's girlfriend.
I got to see just how much work "the boys" have done out there. We cut several trails through some pretty dense stuff today. I'll probably be sore tomorrow. We saw a "family" of 5 hogs and several doe. Also saw many tracks where the stands and blinds are set up. This ought to be a good hunting year for the boys. I'll be "hunting with my camera" from one of the blinds. We had a blast so it's all good! :-)
Janet
DH only hunts with his camera these days.
John, are you there?
Hey guys! just got in...thanks for starting a new thread with weather woes...we are not in harm's way here in Cayman...the sea was glass flat coming home tonight but may pick up during the night....Felix's closest approach to us is a distant 330 miles last update....we may get 4-6 footers, some 15-20 knot winds, but nothing in comparison to what Roatan and the rest of Honduras will get....sad, they have only just begun to recover and are going to get slammed again....Moving fast so it will be over quickly but will leave a wake of destruction and misery to all that lie in his path....once it hits land it will lose strength but the damage will be catastrophic from all the models I have looked at...a cat 5 storm does what it wants to whatever it wants...focus your thoughts and prayers to folks that have marginal living conditions to begin with...Katie and I are safe and sound, wishing all of the support from my dg family could possibly reach those that will in no doubt need it 24 hours from now.....i will advise as i can, you kids seem to have navigated your way around the weather sites posted very well....there are 2 more systems brewing in the distance just coming off africa now....they will be monitored closely be all.....

Glad to know that you're not in the direct path John. Definitely an answered prayer for many of us!
Pepper asked if I'd post a link to the Storm 2 K site here for those that might have missed it on the other thread, or for those that just want to watch it as it happens.
The most discussed thread on Felix is here. It's already on page 70.

You can click on the page numbers to go back a bit, to catch up on the discussions. These guys (pros, most of them) can't believe how FAST Felix went from a Tropical Depression to a Category 5 hurricane.
The list of active storms and their discussions can be found here.

The home page of the site is here.

Many hugs to everyone!
Janet
Thanks Janet!!!
Not a problem at all. I've had the site open since we returned on home Saturday morning. I refresh it periodically during the day and then go back to see what I missed.
Janet
why didn't pepper post it? is the internet down there?
bottom line is, whatever site you visit for information, take heed in the facts. if the projected path will come within your region, be prepared and hope for the best. some have no choice in the matter because we live in the zones that may be affected by tropical weather....no different than living in tornado country, avalanche, fire, eathquakes, forest fires....mother nature will continue to do whatever she wishes, whenever she wishes to....
haven't looked into the links above, i am sure they are giving current data, or, at least i hope they are...i am a correspondent on mine so i stay there....the idea is to get the information to the folks that will be affected by it in any way....
I didn't post it because for the life of me I couldn't remember the name of the site. I try to go to both storm2k and stormcarib.
Soooo glad to see you back with us, John. Janet didn't mean to slight you because I am fully aware that the Texas coast is in harms way this season as well.
John, hope your hand is not giving you pain. Tell Kate that we sympathize with her since her main squeeze has been ailing. No doubt she takes good care of you. We are having unseasonal storms here. Nothing dangerous but cannot argue that things are definitely different.
Take care all of you. Will be watching and praying for the safety of those least able to recover from these catastrophies.
This morning it looks like Felix will make landfall early today. a cat 5 storm, will produce carnage associated with an intense storm that it is. it should lose strength quickly, but the storm surge and heavy rains will have an impact in the region that will surely take a toll. Hurricane Mitch killed 11,000 people there and Felix is in the same location. The Indian Tribes there get around by canoe and low lying areas will be a disaster. Evacuation by force has already taken place, tourists scrambling for any remaining seats....God be with those left behind...
I didn't feel slighted at all...my point is to gain information from wherever you can to prepare yourself and educate others of possible impact on their lives....
Kate takes great care of me as I do her....my hand is getting more flexable by the day....starting pt today on island..realistically, i have 6-8 weeks of rehab before i can be 100% again...thanks for all the support..hope the day goes your way.....should have first blooms of mystery plumeria today!!!! will post on the plumeria thread tonight if "Felix" opens his petals today.....

I have been extremely busy lately, but wanted you all to know that I too have been keeping track of the storms. I have been missing chatting with you guys, but will be back in full force soon. Love to you all - John so glad to hear the hand is getting better. From someone in the area and aware of the damage - is there anything you can suggest that we can do on a practical level? Send? To Where? What? that sort of thing. Christi thanks to your generous heart for starting this....you are a dear one for sure!
Just about to Dmail and see if you were ok. Will wait.
