Anyone familiar with Cleveland Sage? (Salvia Clevelandii)

Grand Haven, MI(Zone 5a)

Do any of you out there know much about Cleveland Sage? (Salvia Clevelandii)?

I am in Michigan, where I'm sure it won't grow, but I want to know more about it. It is supposed to be a fixative for potpourri, and I would love to try it - and love to smell it!

Do you think I could grow it outside through summer and then bring it indoors until spring?

If not, would anyone be willing to sell me a ton of the dried leaves? LOL!

Here is a description....scroll down....

I grow it here in southern CA and it has a very strong smell! I don't know if it would grow well in a pot, mine is huge. I discovered it when I bought a bag of potpourii that consisted of the dried flower pods of it along with lavender and the petals of rock rose for color. I would be glad to sell or trade you some, it will take about a week to dry if I pick some today. I will pick leaves and flower pods for you. Do you have any plants or seeds to trade?

Can you please tell me what it smells like? pod

Hm. What does the dry pod look like? Could I have it in any storebought potpoourri? Maybe it woud grow!

Are you offering to me? Yes yes yes! I want some! I have nothing to trade but I'll buy them if you'll sell them!

Jacumba, CA(Zone 8b)

Yes, pjadams, I am offering to you. I have a a nice amount of stems and flower pods drying. I don't know how much it will cost to send, but I will try to get it to the P.O. sometime this week to find out. I don't need any money for it, just cover the cost of sending it. I'll let you know when I find out what it will cost. Enjoy!

hmmmm ~ we need a scratch and sniff DG ~ lol

Grand Haven, MI(Zone 5a)

LOL, pod! No, we don't! I generally get on DG before I exercise and then shower in the morning, I guess I could string the pods Karen sends in a necklace and wear it in case some used the new S and S function!

LOL ~ not quite what I had in mind... lol

I have a flat full of dried flowers and leaves now so I will go to the P.O. Thursday ( I have to go to a meeting after work tomorrow) and get a priority box to mail it in because I think it would get smashed in a bubble envelope. Does this sound OK to you. I think I read that a priority box runs $4.60 to send.

Pod, I can send some for you to smell! My living room smells so good right now after stripping the stems! I could send some in a plastic baggie in an regular envelope as long as you don't care if it gets smashed. Let me know.

Dmail shortly ~ perhaps I can return the favor some day. It IS scratch and sniff DG ~ LOL

Karrie Sue- I recently received some Cleveland Sage seeds from a recent trade. I am not familar with this plant or seeds, but what do the seeds look like?? The baggies has a bunch of dried flower petals and that's it. I was expecting to see like tiny seeds, like that of petunias, or thistle looking seeds, like rudbeckias.

Wondering if anyone would be so kind as to post a pic of what the seeds them selves look like and what I am looking for in the baggie???? need help, thanks.

The seeds look kind of like sesame seeds. If you were sent flower heads, you turn them upside down and kind of scrunch the seeds out of the holes. If you were just given petals then the person who sent them doesn't know where the seeds are which I didn't either til I learned here from a DG'er. I don't have a camera so I can't send you a pic. Let me know if you find any seeds, if not, maybe we can trade.

Rebecca ~ here is a (not so great) photo of the seeds for Salvia Clevelandii. Karri_sue was kind enough to share the smell of these by sending a couple blooms and foliage of this plant. She then told me how to "milk" the seeds from the blooms. I ended up with quite a few seeds and loved the smell of the foliage. Now, I hope for the intelligence on sowing them... lol

edited to add ~ once again, Thanks Karen 8 )
