Lucky in the sunshine

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

When we were eating our lunch today, we were laughing at Lucky out on the porch railing. It has been SO HOT here this summer, that he has not been able to be out on "his" porch due to those hoomans wanting the AC on.... so he was taking full advantage of the sunny corner of the railing.

Every cat I have had in the 20+ years I have owned this house has LOVED that porch. The original house builder thought I was nuts to want a 2 x 8 or 2 x10 installed to help stabilize the screening instead of a 2x4. I told him it was for the cats. Then he really thought I was nuts. They put in a 2x4. A year later, I had another contracter here and installed the wider board and the 2x2 vertical boards below it. This guy was an animal lover! He took a plane and rounded all the wooden corners of my porch, so the cats would not get splinters. He thought about putting a triangle of wood in the corners to make it easier for them, but they ended up jumping up there and laying down before he was even finished, so we figured they didn't need the extra piece. They have all enjoyed laying across the corners!

Lucky has managed to figure out how to get himself up there, and can even turn around without falling.

Anyway, when I first spotted him he was sound asleep. Stretched out, head down... I have not been able to get photos of him when he is asleep. He always hears the noise of the auto focus on the camera.

So here is his squishy sleepy face ( he always has fat cheeks and puffy eyes when he has been sleeping!) when he realized I had that darn "flash box"! Notice the other front foot is hanging limp on the other side of the railing... he has his leg between the wood and the screen.
