Yesterday we got some good bird photos at the zoo.
Tricolored Heron
Birding at Brevard Zoo, FL.
Crested Caracara. I've never seen this in the wild, but it is supposed to be found flying, with flocks of vultures, in the grasslands of Central Florida. This particular bird has a fixation on popcorn, that is sold at the zoo snack shop. It will follow anyone, holding one of the popcorn boxes, all the way around the wire of its enclosure.
Next time you visit the Brevard Zoo, when you turn left out of the zoo to get on I-95, just keep going straight-under the Interstate. You'll be on Wickham....within the next mile or two is the easiest place in Florida to see the Caracara.
At the west end of Wickham is the Viera Wetlands; a premier birdwatching site in the state.
Thanks, I'll be back there, since I would like to see them in the wild. When we arrived at the zoo, there were a pair of Bald Eagles flying over the I95 interchange.
Super pics bsharf!!
I just love the Crested Caracara; what a cool looking bird!
The Hyacinth Macaw is gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing these w/ us!
Nice pics. I still have not visited the Brevard Zoo, although I was out there while they were building it. I will definitely go sometime this winter. I did not know about the Viera Wetlands either, will have to check that out.

Nice pictures!-I love the Brevard Zoo. We go there everytime we go to visit my parents in Palm Bay. I just love how you can get so close to all the animals-love feeding the giraffes!
