Does anyone know why potatoes grew massive gorgeous vines, but not as many potatoes as they should have had?
Another problem was that a few of them had some sort of ugly malformation with an odd texture in the flesh.

I don't know your conditions, But here in the east massive vines with low yield is usually the result of a nitogen ratio that is too high. A ratio of NPK of 1-2-3 works well for me.
