Help with ID

Can anyone identify this? It's new for me and I really like the color. What I keep finding are tropicals and I can't find an ID for this.

It looks like it could be H. moscheutos "Fantasia." How large is the blossom?

This is Fantasia growing here in Minnesota. The blossom is 6 inches across - plus or minus an inch depending on how much rain has fallen and how hot it is.

If your blossom is about a foot across, it might be Mighty Big Pink. This blossom is Mighty Big Pink and is at least 12 inches in diameter.

Ecrane, I wasn't able to find it there.

Jeannine, I will have to see if I can measure it tomorrow, or I might have to wait for the second bud to bloom. I've only got three hibiscus. Other than color, which I realize today is kind of hard to match, what else do I look for to ID a hibiscus?

Thanks, Loretta

Leaf shape is important. It seems like each Hardy Hibiscus I have has different shape leaves.

Jeannine,

That Mighty Big Pink is beautiful. Where did you get it? Is it hardy in Zone 4a?

amazar, the Mighty Big Pink is hardy in zone 4a. It has been growing in my yard for two and a half summers and made it through two winters with about 6 inches of leaf mulch.

It was given to me as a gift, purchased from a specialty nursery here in the Twin Cities area. At the time that I received it, the tag was marked "PPAF" so I don't know if it is widely available yet or not.

I was not successful last summer in getting any seeds to ripen, and this year we have had some very heavy rains that have knocked many of the buds off the stalks, so I doubt there will be seeds this year, either.

Jeannine, it's 6 inches across but I don't think it is Fantasia - my flower isn't as ruffled This plant is in my back yard which is more shaded than the front. The hibiscus in full sun only last one day but this one in the partial shade is looked great again today. I am quite thrilled with it even though I haven't figured out what it is yet.

Amazar, I didn't know that about the leaves.

Yesterday I took this picture before it fully opened. I don't think I've ever seen them at this step in blooming.

Thanks for your help, I will keep looking.

Elsie,

I agree that your hibiscus is not Fantasia. Here is a picture I took earlier today of a fully opened Fantasia blossom - it does not have the red veins like yours, although the foliage and the flower size appear to be about the same.

Jeannine, that is beautiful. I hope mine will keep increasing the number if flowers as it gets older. This is year two and it has 2 flowers.
