Help with a fig

My nice neighbor just brought me a brown turkey fig. I live in zone 6. Any instructions would be appreciated.

You should be able to grow figs in your area if you give them winter protection especially during the first few years as young trees are less winter hardy. You can plant the fig in the ground and grow it like a lilac bush or transplant it into a larger pot and taking it in for the winter. Here in Central Texas, September and October are ideal planting times. Plants have a chance to establish a good root system before going dormant in winter. I don't know about Connecticut. Contact your local Extension Service agent. He should be able to give you more information specific to your area.
