australis 'Silver Valley'

Long Beach, CA

I have this plant I got from Norma 3 years ago labeled that with David Liddle IML 76275 also on the tag.
Now I could have copied the number a bit wrong, but I cannot find anywhere in DL's catalog of that number. I did find australis 'Silver Valley, however it says it has pubescent leaves. This plant has totally smooth leaves. Very thick ones. that are oval and pointed with silver splotches on them. It is a pretty plant, but I am wondering about the ID. Thoughts?

Marcy, I looked through my back catalogs of David's, and noticed that all of his numbers seem to be 4 digits and start with either 0 or 1. So maybe that # is Norma's accession number? Maybe it isn't an australis at all? I've not seen one, or any close relative even, with any silver splotches at all, but there could be one.

OK...this is a picture I found of it. The leaves are thick and heavy and tototally smooth on both sides rather like diversifolia leaves, but it is not that as I have compared the two. These leaves are much smaller and wider with that point at the tip.

Sure looks like a carnosa to me....LOL

Oh, but the leaves are very thick like obovata or kerrii leaves. I have lots of carnosas, but none look or feel like this.

Maybe a hybrid of carnosa and diversifolia or something similar? Looks like a pretty plant. Maybe you'll have to wait for flowers to see. I would bet money that it is not any kind of australis.

I agree with Mark...it looks like a cross of something with something? Australis with carnosa/obovata...who knows. Flowers will be interesting!

:) A surprise bloom... There always so much fun..

Yes, it could be anything. Norma had hoyas from all over the place, and tags do get scrambled sometimes, so anything is possible. I will just have to keep that bugger healthy and hope for a bloom sometime soon.
Will let you know when it does.

I really like the leaves on that one, Marcy!
