I wanted to thank you for the welcome & aplogize for how long it has been. It always seems that when I get on I'm trying to add things to my have/want lists and forget to do as simple a thing as say "hey, thanks for the welcome!!". Plus, since this is our first house & my first garden, I've been trying to get my gardens figured out & planned so I can get them dug up for plants that will soon be arriving. Sorry it took me so long to reply-I'll try to be better on the communication front in the future...
Thanks, Stacey

Welcome Stacey!! Hope you can join in on our discussions when things quiet down in the winter. I know how labor intensive it is to dig up grass and prepare planting beds. If you aren't in a big hurry to plant this fall you can do it the lazy way.............just lay down a minimum of 12 sheets of newspaper and dump some topsoil or compost over it. Come spring you will be able to just plant. The grass underneath will have died. You can also do a raised bed and just dump dirt in there. As long as there is 4-6 inches of dirt over the grass it will die and decompose.

Love you name. I have a granddaughter named Stacey. :)

Welcome Stacey... Nice to hear from you, you will enjoy the Michiganderans here. Where abouts is Temperance? Ronna

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Temperance is just above Toledo-about 1.5 miles over the Ohio border.

I had heard the trick w/ the newspaper, but as I'm quite sure it holds true for others, gardening is very theraputic for me.

I think I made a mistake w/ some of the things I'd ordered. I didn't know about the part of the website that gives feedback on internet flower sites and some of my orders for my Bday were placed with Spring Hill, Breck's and Van Bourgian. I'm glad I checked it out today though, I was just about to order from MIbulb & from Direct Gardening. Does anyone have any sites other than Big Dipper, Bluestone & Brent & Becky's (I ordered from all of them too)?? I sure could use some recommendations.

So far I LOVE the site, have done 3 trades & have a few more in the works. I am planning BIG beds and several of them. I would love those "magazine" gardens, but don't have quite enough room for all of that.

My husband keeps poking fun at me since I used the Paint program to carefully plan my gardens to hopefully get a 3 season affect in each 1.

Thank you all again & hope to stay in touch & would REALLY appreciate any recommendations!!

Hallsons is very good for perennials. I believe they are down in your area somewhere.

Thans for the tip hemlady. I'll see if I can find them. I was more talking about mail order places. I did get my shipment from Spring Hill yesterday & was pleasantly surprised that everything I ordered looked to be in good condition-all the plants ahd nice growth on them & were all alive. Maybe everyone's dissatisfaction depends on when you order and your proximity to them.....

Jerome, MI(Zone 5b)

Hallsons is more up our way...M 50 to US 12 left..to 127 right a little ways..and you are there...maybe 50 miles..but worth the trip...you would not be disappointed...hehehehe....about 10 miles..to us..lol...Not far from Michigan International Speedway.....

smiles..Diana...((they mail order too))

I like White's Flower Farm. Pricey but nice stuff and they guarantee their plants.

I also like Bluestone Perennials

I've also had good luck with buying plants on Ebay.
