Have you seen?

Louisville, KY

Here is something a friend sent me. I have never seen it anywhere else. It is a variegated Colocasia Black Runner. It was going to get TCed, but like many variegated plants it is not stable enough to get it to work. So I was given the plants. They grew very good this year got around 5 feet tall. The leaves have tons of colors in them. Yellow green pink orange purple and black. The new leaves are like this photo.

Here is a new leaf and a older leaf next to each other. The older leaves usually turn mostly black with neon pink blotches. At first I did not think it would be a really nice plant but as it matured it has really started showing off.

Hard to believe both those leaves are from the same plant! Very nice!

OMG! It's a MUST have, Brian. You have some great friends. Variegated C. Black Runner.... I love it....so, how can we get em? I just bought one that's green with purplish variegation (can't remember the name) They would just love lovely together in the ground next year ; I'm really loving your Black Pearl if got from you in June, it is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. But still my fav (okay 1 of my favs) is your Pink China. It is very prolific. Thanks for posting the pics of such an oddity.

OK, Brian, it is completely unfair for you to dangle such temptation out in front of us when it's not available yet (I checked). What a teaser.

That thing would just look tooooo good in my yard.

Well, since Brian mentioned in the first post that it can't be tissue cultured, it may never be available. So we'll just have to drool over Brian's!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Shoot, it's a runner, it'll come out one day. I'll just be tortured at the thought until then I suppose. (psst.....if anyone ever has one...lol....I have a couple of cool amarcrinum hybrids..)

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Oh WOW, does it have a name? And any chance that runner babies will be available in the future?

Ligonier, PA(Zone 6a)

That is to die for. Drool, Drool.

Ecrane, I just can't except that.... "it can't be tissue cultured it may never be available" That's more like it Linda, runner babies..... could be quite expensive... Well, if anyone is to have it, I'm glad Brian's friend gave it to him... We'll just have to have Brian post pics of it from time to time... it's unbelievable!

The is the first year I have had with it. I know the trouble with it in TC is the same with most variegated plants only a small percentage of them are showing this variegation some are either totally variegated and cannot survive or showing no variegation at all. The plant does come true from suckers and runners and I have been working on stocking it up now. The good thing is this plant is not slow and can produce a lot of pups in one season. Though nothing like what you get out of TC. It is one of those plants that will mostly be seen in hobbiest collections.

Hmmmmmmm, better get busy growing those puppies, Brian. We're ALL drooling on our keyboards! I love the ones that aren't afraid to flourish and be show-offs! I see you have one up on E-bay...
