Northeast Washington Gardeners?

Kernville, CA

Hi, I plan to move near Kettle Falls and would like to find out about gardening in that area. Ann

tigpie, might check in Rocky Mtn forum also. I know there are a few folks in Montana, and Rutholive in Tonasket, WA viewing. I believe the more arid, eastern Wa environment fits in quite well with the whole of the Rky Mtns., more so than the Puget Sound and Olympic Peninsula.

Hi Tig!
I frequent the Rocky Mtn forum as well - even though I live 20 min east of Seattle.
There are friendly folks there, quite knowledgable, and full of useful information for your climate. I have received some of the best info in regards to Xeric planting, and the like.

Vadap is right about the more arid environment: you will find the lower temps, drying winds & lack of rain in the Rockies meshes well with E. WA conditions.

Also - you might want to contact Rutholive (dmail) as she has been over that way for some time, & is very helpful.

Wishing you a safe & sane (!) move - best regards, K

Hi tigpie,
We're going to be practically neighbors; K. Falls is just a few miles north of me. Hope you like the area as much as we do.

Hey thanks to you suggestion to tigpie I'll go check out the Rocky Mtn forum... they won't be any closer to me geographically but at least your gardening will be more similar. THANKS!

I moved from the southeast corner of Washington (read that as HOT and dry!!) to Boise, where it is also hot and dry, colder in winter, with higher altitude.

That desribes most of the Rocky Mountains, from Northern Montana(ok, maybe not so hot, but dry) to central New Mexico, and the east slope of Sierra Nevadas to the front range(the east side) of Colorado. Hot, dry and windy in summer, and cold(and hopefully wet, but usually not so much) in the winter, with very short springs and falls.
