I was just bragging about this seedling being my favorite for shape... I love the shape so much!
Freak South Winds at 101 degrees!
All in a brug mama's life.. :) I feel like a postal worker.. come wind or sleet... LOL
Aw, bless your heart ZZ, I can almost see you out there frantically trying to rescue everything.. it's so sad when that happens, but it will recoup. I've drug them inside to escape our summer storms, but they are all too big now, except a couple youngsters I'm working with... Nice attitude, though... I'll try it the next time it happens to me instead of swearing like a sailor and buying more plants to soothe myself. (okay, I'll still buy more plants to soothe myself!) Have you had blooms? It does/did? have an attractive shape, very straight trunk and proud looking!
This heat sure is a bummer. WE don't have the wind, but got up to 105 yesterday and it is suppose to hit that again today. My brugs. are all looking pretty wimpy about now.
No, it hasn't bloomed yet AuntB.. (you can bet you will hear all about it when she does.. I'm famous for that) LOL I love to share when they open.. it's suspense.. anticipation, and sometimes paydirt, sometimes not.. but it's still fun to share with other brug momz.
She's a Creamsickle x Painted Lady cross. I didn't even care about her not blooming as much as the big round leaves and how tropical she looks. It's okay.. I'm better now.. All the babiez are out of the wind.. I'll pick up the mess and go search for buds.. :)
Your lucky Patricia! Even though your probably slow roasting with this heat.. the winds today were awful.. it was 104 and blowing 16mph.. like a gigantic blow dryer!
Oh well.. pick up the mess and go on! At least nothing got broken in two!
I would wilt in that kind of heat. I hope they will all survive to give you lots of gorgeous blooms.
That sucks, it sounds just like what happens around here all the time. Come on fall, Come on fall....lol. Your brug sounds like a good cross.
Oh my Joyce. That looks so bad. Were any broken? All your loving care and that happens.
Gee Patricia, you got to 105? I got in the 80s and I was whining about it. I could not live where it gets to be 105. Tom has houses to look at in Lafayette. I say forget that. LOL
ZZ I know your pain. The worst is when we get the winds from a storm and no rain. The worst is when I am at work and I can't do anything to help my plants. They have to fend for themselves till I get home.
I had one over 8 feet tall safely on the side of the house or so I thought so. The wind ripped around the corner and the next thing I know the whole top blew and just broke off. Buds and all.
Joyce, I hope your brugs. rebound quickly for you. We ocassionally get winds like that but usually in the Fall and early Spring.
Kell, Yes it got up to 105 on Wed. 104 Thurs. and we are to be at 100 today. They are saying mid 90's all next week for us. Where I hadn't been dealing much with spider mites this year, all of a sudden I am seeing them on everything and all I can do is try to knock them off with a water spray because it is just too hot to spray insecticide.
I'm like you Dot, I just drive home thinking the worst, that way, whatever I see will be better than what I imagined. But to lose an entire top with buds is quite disturbing.. We're supposed to get some rain next Thursday. I'll probably mist everything a couple times in the evening just to try and deter the spider mites... They like it hot and dry, so I think the misting might be like rain..... (just something I do, not sure if it helps, but I do what I can for my babies)
That's so sad to lose the whole top of a plant. Even worse, full of buds.
