Who know which eriostemma this is? I think it's one of Ed Gilding's hybrids.
Which eriostemma?
That sounds like it, Christine, thanks!
That looks like the work of Ed Gilding! What a awesome bloom and beautiful photo! If that is cv. Ruthie, I am going to have to have a long talk with my plant! I never had such cool color variation.
I know they're reall but they have a glossy plastic look to them!!! Sorry I dont know which one it is though, Ruthie,Optimistic and Monette all favor a bit to me .
Lucky you!!! Actually got an eriostemma to bloom!!! I can grow them quite well but so far no flowers. I even had some eriostemma cuttings that Carol sent me when she did the co-op several months back that came with open flowers on them, you think I can get them to rebloom??? No they just keep growing and growing but not a sign of a flower anywhere!!
I gotta move to Hawaii or California. Indoor and outdoor hoyas, that just doesnt happen here. They can go outdoors but come late november or early december it's back inside!!!
Congrats on the flowers!!!

Don't congratulate me! This was taken at Carol's this spring. SF is in California, but it really isn't California, if you know what I mean. I wouldn't try to grow an eriostemma in our usually foggy, cool climate.
The colors are amazing, aren't they? I wish Ed would hybridize some non-eriostemma hoyas for the rest of us to enjoy.
Well I take my congrats back then !!!!!!! Great pic anyway!!!
I can grow the eriostemmas with no problem. In fact my ciliata is rapidly approaching the top of a 10ft high gh,scrambling up a bamboo pole ,and Ruthie aint too far behind it!!!. Ciliata has made what appear to be 2 peduncles but they dont seem to want to grow. I am now allowing all of my eriostemmas to grow upwards as high as they can instead of wrapping them around something.
Carol seems to think they need to go up and reach a certain length before blooming and she should know as hers seem to bloom well for her, so that's what i'm doing.

Yup...it is cv. Ruthie. The colors on the flowers can be very pale or dark...depending upon the light it is growing in and something else (I don't have a clue what it is...). I get dark flowers like Mrks photo and then I get very all yellow flowers.... go figger.
it is absolutely STUNNING!!!!!
cv. Ruthie is the last eriostemma that I own. I'm still holding out, wishing........
Thanks, the picture did turn out well. Only think I don't like about this cv., not much of a smell.
Very Cool bloom.
Tami
Wow, what is that?
Nice photos!!
Hi Mark,
That last flower looks like the one at Logees labeled Hoya affinis. I'm not sure if it is labeled correctly but I ran into that today while browsing. I thought it looked familiar.
Beautiful blooms!
Teresa
Too right, Teresa...I was expecting something really dark.
Mark...was it the umbel that was 'looking up' instead of down? If so, it would be cv. Black Star (Gilding).....
Carol, I think I had to pick up the umbel and turn it upwards, hence the fingers in the shot. Do you think it is affinis?
Thanks, Christina!
I was going to say Black Star. Beautiful photo's Mark. I would kill to walk outside and find some of these big beauties growing up my trees.
Well...well could be affinis...let me look at my recent picture of it. Seems your flower has a yellow hue around the corona.. NOT sussuela.... guppyi? I'.. be back.
