Pale leaf color on H. fungi

Medford, NJ

Is it normal for this one to look so pale? It gets maybe an hour of direct morning sun.

And while I have the attention of you plant doctors, I have some nummularioide cuttings i am growing for my mom, and lately these rusty looking spots have shown up. There are non on the mama plant, but she is indoors and this one has been outside for most of the summer ( they have been rooted for about a year and have lots of new growth ) I also see similar spots on kentiana.

Any ideas?

I would say the H. fungii is getting too much sun/light. They grow more like H. carnosa.

I don't think those red spots are rust. They look more like where an insect bit it and the wound healed with the bit of red. If this is a raised spot within the red, it could be a scale.

There is no raised bump in the red spots...they just showed up in the past week or so, after about 3 or 4 days of heavy rain and dampness.

I moved the fungii inside, there are no spots left outside that it would be shielded from the sun, and I would probably be bringing it in soon anyway. Little by little I am learning which of my plants will be fine in lower light, meaning I can save my precious few bright indoor spots for the ones that really appreciate it.

Thanks for responding

I know I sound l sound like a warn out record, but, check your root system. I swear, just about every time I find a plant is declining, it is from root rot. Are the leaves firm or sort of papery?
If it is not the roots, try adding some chelated iron and fertilizer high in nitrogen. Then again, reducing the light might resolve the issue in time.

Your spots could also be sun spots from too much light. I have that problem with a few plants that are given too much light.

Mel, this one is in a small pot, I popped it out and the roots look ok-
(i am stingy with the water) but both it and the kentiana get alot of direct morning sun, probably the most out of all my plants. For now I have moved them both to a shadier spot, and will probably be moving them inside withing the next few weeks.

No one thinks this could be a fungus of some sort?

I don't think it is fungi...but you could spray it just to be on the safe side. Mine get red spots from high light and bug bites....

What do I spray with, the athletes foot spray?

Another plant issue...I am having alot of small ones right now, but not big enough to keep starting new threads....

I had one surviving cummingiana cutting, last year I lost 2 out of 3 - this last one was rooted, growing, doing well, still a single stem but about 12" long....I decided to repot into a cute little ceramic pot my niece gave me, and within a week the bottom leaves all started dropping. At first I thought it was just reacting to transplant shock, but when I got a good look at the stem where it comes out of the soil (which is where the leaves I lost were) it looked withered and almost dried out, the same problem I had about a month back with some parts of my shepherdii.

I think this is some sort of stem rot, maybe Carol suggested that about the shepherdii? The shepherdii though were very old wood cuttings, the cummingiana was not. I cut it off where the stem was still healthy and am just going to re-root, but is there something I am doing wrong? I generally don't keep my soil too wet, but I do mist regularly with water mixed with superthrive, especially new cuttings or after repotting....could this be contributing to the problem?

It may have been a drainage problem. I don't think the pretty pots drain as well as the usual ol plastic things we keep them in. I had the same issue every time I would try to transplant something into a lovely pot. Maybe they just hold too much water too long or something.
I find now that they do much better if you just put a few pebbles or perilite in the bottom of those pots and then SET the plastic pot into it. You can then even add some spagnum moss around the top to make it more lush looking.
