Does anybody want any datura seeds?

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

The buggers will definately grow ANYWHERE! I had one plant and it spread a bit last season, so this year I thought I'd take some of the seedlings and fill in empty spots. Sun, shade, good soil, sand, they all grew. Two nights ago, one of the plants had11 blooms all open the same night. You should see them with the full moon right now. They grow big in one season with huge white blooms. I'll have lots of seeds, if any one wants some.

How long did you have to wait for your seed pods to ripen. I have a double purple datura seed pod wrapped in a piece of old stocking, trying to catch the seed before they go all over the place. Just wondering how long it takes to ripen.

I never really paid any attention to how long before they ripen, I would say around 6 weeks up here. I watch till they start to harden up and the spikes are really sharp, then I cut them off and put them in a dish in the house. They usually pop in a few days. Even if they pop on the plant there always seems to be seeds left in them.

I have the double purple this year and it's beautiful, I also have a double yellow that just opened it's first flower this week.

Is it too late to get in on the free seeds? I can send you a SASE. I love datura. I wonder if they'd grow around the pond? It's pretty crappy dirt down there. Clay

I think they will grow anywhere! I have them in clay, sand, old cinder pile and the middle of my vegetable garden. They do like sun though.

Greenbush, MI(Zone 4b)

I would like some seeds if you still have some. I can do
a trade or send a SASE. My address is in the extras at the top.

Can they be sown out now, or wait til warm weather again?

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

I started mine in the house, then transplanted. I'm not sure if the new ones will self seed and come up from the roots like the white ones do, but I suspect they will. I am having problems getting seed pods off the double ones. I think the flower is too dense and tight for the bees to get through, so I turned some iniside out today. We'll see what hsppens....
