I went looking and found

Mooresville, NC(Zone 7b)

I went looking and found a couple of cats (I'm going with the lingo now) on the milkweed. I am sooo excited!!!!! I also found what looks like eggs. Since I'm really new to this I don't really know what I'm looking for. I then looked on my cannas. I can tell where something has been eating them and I took a pic but it didn't turn out too well. I'll have to try again. Then I checked one of the cherry trees. I thought that would be a futile search since the trees are 50 ft. tall. Lo and behold I found one. Ugly looking thing. I'm assuming that it was a red-spotted purple. Is this a picture of Monarch eggs?

I found this on the cherry tree also.

I found things that looked like this all over my cherry tree. Does this have anything to do with the butterflies/caterpillars?

Thanks, Melanie

Interesting pics Melanie. I love the look of those eggs in the third picture. And that thing in the fourth picture I would have no idea what that was. On the Monarch eggs I have honestly never seen any eggs or cats for that matter. I am hoping to though.

I am sure someone will be along to help you any time now.

I don't raise monarchs and I have no cherry trees so I am of absolutely no help. But I can bump your thread up and encourage others to chime in and share their wisdom. Oh, and I hope it is a red-spotted purple - I love those things!

Hi Mel/Melanie/Mellie: Thanks for responding. I had someone respond earlier and identified a picture a had taken as a red-spotted. I then did research and found they loved cherry trees. They also love rotten fruit. We have an overabundance of the rotten fruit for sure. Since I'm so new to this hunting cats thing I was hoping someone could help.
