Blooms for 8-29-07

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

Well not much today except a lot of rain. Had to pop them and put them in the vase so they are not as pretty and full when they are on the bush or flat on the ground. Anyway Gator Pride was nery nice with petaloids, El Capitolio, Rum Runner, HeartBeat, and Hawaiian Sunset. Still waiting on a Blue Angel but she is taking her time!!!

Robert,
You should put hairspray or something on them. This way you could keep them in your vase.

Nothing for me today, but I'll doublecheck

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Your blooms make a very nice arrangement. It's a gray day here too.

The sun came out and I found these hibiscus blooming. Names are on the picture. I hope they are readable.

Nothing for me today, either. Too much rain and my doubles haven't bloomed for a few months. They keep dropping all of their buds and have black-looking stuff at the base of where their leafs meet their leaf stems. Ugh ... .

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Great collage, Brugie! I just love Black Voodoo and Cool It :-)

Robert your blooms all look beautiful!

I've only got a few today, since it's hideously hot here today (111)...

Here's Black Dragon (before it melted).

And lastly, my favorite today is Mango Tango.

Have a terrific evening :-)

Thanks Karen. Your Mango Tango is a beauty. I can't imagine having temps as hot as you have to deal with. Makes me sweat just thinking about it. I had Erin Rachael in bloom today too, but she is on the front deck and I forgot to look there when taking pictures. Hope your last half of the week is much cooler for you Karen.

so, that's what "cool it" looks like. Dang, gotta get me one.
Thank Goodness there's only two months left of buying hibs (I think),

because I'm running out of room! (not)

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Cat, I ran out of room long ago ;-) But does that stop me, no, of course not!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I can't buy more until spring. No place to keep them.

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

I'll bet you have a good list going for next spring then!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

My problem is I won't know I've run out of room until I'm trying to shove them all in the greenhouse for the winter...then I'll realize that I bought too many, and I'll have to figure out which ones I like least and leave them out to brave the elements!

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

I agree with Ecrane!!! I am going to have to build a bigger greenhouse at home to keep all of mine!!! For a long time when I would go to the nursery to pick up plants is was kinda like "OK 1 for sale and 2 for me, 1 for sale and 2 for me" I think I spoiled myself too much!!! I think I told amanda I was going to put a hot tub in 1 of my greenhouses and use it in the winter just to get away to a tropical paradise!!! I will just hibernate there for the winter!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I like your idea, Robert. Being in zone 5, that would be ideal if only the propane delivery guy would not leave or send a bill for the heat.

I have 14 on my spring order list. Right now, my glass of tea is holding it down so I don't add to it.

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

Absolutely Brugie,
I hate to see what my heating bill will be for the GH but we usually have mild winters here, A few cold days and nights but nothing real extreme, I am usually still wearing shorts and flip flops LOL Gotta love it!!! we are basically right off of the Gulf of Mexico on the Texas Louisiana border. Its very humid here and as soon as you open the door to go outside it is just one HOT slap in the face!!! Lows have been running in the upper 70's to mid 80's with heat index's running 105 to as high as 118. Horrible!!!

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

I think I'm going to get one of those portable pop-up type greenhouses for mine this year like Clare showed in the plumeria forum. Otherwise, I'll be lugging them all up the stairs (ugggg), which still may happen if I can't talk DH (dear??) into the greenhouse idea - he's not real plant friendly...

We are also usually lucky. I wear tank tops and flip flops year round too. Every season is usually pretty nice here, except summer when we have miserable (imo) temperatures. It's 7:10 p.m. and still 97 degrees with high humidity...gross :-(

Santa Rosa, CA

Hmmm, today was about 88 here and now it's around 72 (8 oclock) and in another hour or so it will 65. Normally at this time of year I'm in sweat pants around this time because the temps are getting into the 50's with fog.

Of course I'm soon to be out of the hib business because my heating billl was going to be around 4k a month. There's good and bad to everything isn't there?

Hey Karen

Wheres the plumeria forum??? I have two now but am rooting six more. I LOVE PLUMERIA.

Here you go! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/plumerias/all/
I finally have started to have some success with plumies, so I think once I accomplish my current goal of owning every hibiscus cultivar on the planet, I'll be starting in on the plumies!

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

That's so funny you say that - I am notoriously ADD and have an attention span of a gnat, and have added about 15 plumies this year - they hang out with the hibiscus. My DD asked me "so aren't the hibiscus enough for you, are you going through a plumeria phase too?" My family should probably be really thankful that we have such a small yard, otherwise I'd fill it with Brugmansias as well ;-) I've got a huge Charles Grimaldi in the ground, and two others (Velvet Rose & Geneveive) in pots - as a matter of fact Velvet Rose has her first full flush of blooms today. She hangs out in our waterfall area with the hibies and plumies ;-) And to think that I have a non-plant-friendly DH, one has to wonder ;-)

David, Clare_CA is the queen of the plumeria forum, I worship her like a goddess ;-) She is just choc full o' information and beauties...

Cracks me up, Ecrane, maybe we were twins separated at birth, lol!!

Here's a Cancun Pink bloom from my tallest plumie taken today.

The plum is gorgeous. I always wondered what they looked like.
Well, no greenhouse for me. I live in southern central fl. coldest day is about 42 at night. If it gets colder, I have lots and lots and lots of blankets and sheets.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Karen, I think we must be twins! LOL I love brugs too but I've never had much luck with them, once I've got all the hibiscus and plumies maybe I'll try them again!

Santa Rosa, CA

Yep love brugs myself but haven't started a collection of them yet. I'll talk to Gordo for those. I am a huge plumie fan. Saw some tremendous ones in Mex. and Central America. Now that I have time I will be much more interested in them. YA HOO!!!
