"Old Newbie"!

Bethany, IL(Zone 5b)

I just signed up again. I stopped for several months and decided I missed contact with my favorite people, gardeners! I hope to get to know some of you again. I am a Master Gardener, live on a farm, retired 6th grade teacher, and have two miniature donkeys (great donkey pooh!) It is great to be back!

Welcome back. I'm rather new too,
Question do the donkeys make good pets?I have wanted some for a couple years now ,but DH says we are full.My two horses are 29 so I guess I will just have to wait.

Donkeys make wonderful pets! Mine are 5 years old. They live to be 45 years. I grew up with horses, but always wanted donkeys. They say that "an only donkey is a lonely donkey" so you need to get two.
Do you ride or show your horse? 29 is getting up there!

Love the little guys soo.. cute. I showed the photo to my DH he said they would out live us , and who would take care of them? We consider our pets family. We have a 18+yr old cat and 5 others , a dog, two goats, and my daughters chinchilla till she gets out of college.
I still ride the horses once in a while, but mostly they are pasture pets.

Your horses sure don't look 29! My kids say they don't want my donkeys. They will definitely outlive us! We will deal with that when the time comes. Right now I just enjoy them. What do you do with a chinchilla? We try to keep cats around, but here on the farm the coyotes get them. Right now we just have one cat and a dog. Would love to have horses, but need to have more pasture. We are surrounded by corn or soybeans in Illinois.
