is there a way to tell a hen from a rooster early, like say shortly after getting their "big bird" feathers? just learning, with 9 in one small coop it would be nice to be sure my rooster count is smaller than my hen.

This has been in lots of discussions. It is very hard to tell until they are around 3-4 months old. My last rooster would make the oddest sound first thing in the morning when he was about 2 weeks old...but that was rare. My other roosters I didnt find out about until the day they crowed!
