i'm trying to introduce a rhode island red to my flock of banties. my poor banties are terrrrified, momma hen is attacking one of her chicks now. what if anything can i do to make the transition barable for all?
reds and banties
Put the red inside a wire cage inside the coop/run with your banties. I got a new hen who was attacking my rooster, and I put her in a cage in the coop (with food and water) for about 5 or 6 days. After this they all got along fine. If they are still upset then start the red off a little farther from the other chickens. Just dont leave it in a cage out the yard where a racoon or something can get its paws in and get the chicken!
They will have to learn their pecking order.
ok i'll try. tho it might be to late. i've already put "red " in, the banties, tho timid, probably because of his size, are treating him very respectfully in the coop so far.giving him all the room he needs. i just wish the banties would'nt fight amonst themselves or ignore him while out and about.
