Has anyone made a large plastic lined pond? How do you like it?
Plastic Lined Pond
Do you mean a vinyl liner? Yes I have that in my 12 yr old pond and it works great. I had a rock ledge run down the sides after the liner was put in place and it looks as natural as any pond.
The only draw back to this type pond it's rather difficult to shoot a snake because if you hit the vinyl it could tear. If you hit the rocks the bullet could ricochet. Other than that no problems.

I just realized something: I can't have a vinyl liner, because of the wild animals, like racoons with their claws. Oh and my Malamute and Husky. And I was wanting a huge pond, so a shell won't work. Any other ideas?
The liners made for ponds are pretty tough. I really would not worry about things like racoons or dogs and cats. If you put the recommended underlayment before spreading the liner it acts as a cushion to protect the liner from whatever is beneath it and also has a little "give" to allow the liner to flex when something comes at it from the top. I was concerned about this too so before I invested a lot in one I got a small amount of both the liner and the underlayment and put it on top of the kind of surface the pond would be. I tried to poke a hole in it by pressing and pushing across with a limestone rock (the kind of wear I thought would occur if I had rocks in the bottom and walked on them) and also with a stick that was about 1/2 inch in diameter. I did not have a really sharp end on the stick, just something that I thought might fall in there naturally. Could not make a dent.
I've had large rocks fall from the top of the water fall into my top pond and it didn't do any damage.
