I just saw an oriole fly overhead this afternoon. What a glorious sight! It landed in our monstrous poplar tree and sang, confirming my amateur bird I.D. efforts.
Is it too late in the year to try to attract them with a feeder?
Just saw an oriole...is it too late to feed?
You could try but are they migrating now?
They might be migrating. I tried looking up the migration info online, but didn't have any luck finding out when they leave this area for the season.
Lady Eagle, just put out a bowl of sugar water..orioles love it ! Even if they are migrating they'll stop for a drink.
A bowl of sugar water, do you mean just on the ground?
Do you have an oriole feeder? If not just put the bowl of sugar water out (1 part sugar to 6 parts water) maybe on top of an overturned flower pot or something similiar. Make sure the bowl is a little on the heavy side.
I'd put something out - they'll be busy feeding up for migration, so will be wanting plenty of food.

I'm convinced! I'll put something out for them tomorrow, and see what happens!
Hello,
Orioles are migrating through PA (soon finished) and we saw a pair for a day or two. Orioles love orange slices and you could give grape jelly a try. Just nail half an orange on a post, etc. and see what happens. By the way, squirrels may aquire a taste for oranges as well.
LOL, My squirrels have eaten every orange slice I've ever put out. Pelle :-)
It depends a bit on the species of oriole, but yes, most are migrating now. Providing nectar, oranges and/or grape jelly will help provide them with fuel for their journey south. For some reason grape is the flavor they like. You'd think they'd like orange marmalade, but they don't.
You'd think they'd like grapejuice too, nope ! I bought some Welch's grapejuice thinking this would be a real treat for them..ha ! They wanted nothing to do with it.
I read about the grape jelly thing and was surprised myself. Who would've thought "grape" jelly?
I bought an oriole nectar feeder to try. I put it out for a week, but no one stopped by. I think the orioles are long gone. So I put it away and will bring it out next year.
We saw Baltimore's & Orchard Orioles here this summer. The Orchards came aand ate seed on the ground. So an Oriole feeder is on my list for next year for sure!
