I best make this the last one for now. This is the other side of the gazebo. Most of my other beds are really stressed from the heat and drought.

Fantastic, Mel...what a great paradise!!!

Davison, MI(Zone 5a)

Absolutely beautiful, like Hawaii. Your plants look so very healthy and green. What's that red plant hanging in the Whoops picture? Is it a hoya?

Mel, do you WORK? I would think taking care of all of those plants would require full time hours! I have the same question as cflowr - what is the red plant on the right in the whoops picture?

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Oh my gosh, Mel - stunning! I would never leave home! You are a talented plant lover and gardener!!!!

Karen

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

That reddish one looks like Hoya waymaniae to me.

I don't even grow hoyas and may decide I have to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great pics and I personally like the 'machete' plan, too............(however you spell it, i get it!!!!!)

Prescott, AZ

Oh Girl, you have it BAD.... Your place looks just wonderful. Really how long does it take you to water? I noticed another little trick on your gazebo, how you have a pole hanging by hooks for more hoya space. I've gotta get right on that :) Thanks for sharing, your place looks great. Is the cabana boy taking another day off?

Knoxville, TN

Thanks so much to all of you! Awanda called the greenhouse plant correctly. One the W word, (work), I fear I work full time. If you saw the inside of my house, it would be easy to tell that I spend every minute of my time off outside in the summer. I work mostly with people who have had head injuries and am also seeing a big increase in REALLY mentally ill referrals. Watering and caring for my plants is my therapy, however, at times it does become overwhelming.

The pictures looked lighter on my computer screen. I really do appreciate all the kind comments!

Tami, I guess I forgot the picture of the 6' tall buff and tan cabanna boy. He is hard to catch as he is camera shy.

WOW they are BEAUTIFUL !!

Long Beach, CA

Wonderful pics and wonderful place to relax. The air must be pristine with all the plant oxygen. Thanks for sharing your little corner. Hey..what is that variegated plant (looks like a banana) to the right of the white plant hooks? I know you have a variegated banana...is that it?
Marcy

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

meltn.........................................where are you???????????????? you don't get to post a zillion pictures and not be around to answer our questions...................

Mel, you do have it bad... Your place looks gorgeous.

Knoxville, TN

You folks are so sweet! It has been so darn hot and dry that the rest of the yard is really stressed. I'll share some more pictures after we get some rain and I can do a bunch of pruning.
Marcy, yes, that is the AeAe. The pups are second generation and I would have had a bunch more, but I divided the banana mat too early in the spring. A Dear friend of mine has been fighting Salivary Cancer and I really wanted to give him a pup this year. After I divided it, I did some serious sweating and at one point thought I had lost them. Carol, I guess those are your Great Grand Nanas!

I could really run with scissors there. If you work, What are your hours? We need to know when to stop by with our scissors. :-)

Tami

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

Man, that is pretty!

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Wow! I love your oasis! Thanks for sharing :)

Mel, your garden is soooo nice! I wish I could have one like yours, a dream that will never become real here in Quebec. But at least, I can look at your garden and think that I am at the Botanical Garden! (when I go there, I forget about the rest of the world too...)
Keep up the good work "S"
Doris

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow! They're beautiful. I can't beleive so many plants. LOL

Knoxville, TN

Ada, I have seen your garden and know you relate to my plant problem!

Tami, PLEASE do run with scissors! Guests are welcome to bring scissors. In fact, I encourage it! My plant friends are not allowed to leave without taking home a sack of plants!

Again, I appreciate all the support for my insanity! There is nothing better than co-dependents when one is addicted to tropical plants!

Medford, NJ

Lets see, Knoxville is how far of a drive from here...? Maybe 7 or 8 hours? If I leave now, I will be just in time for dinner....

Knoxville, TN

I'll put an extra plate on the table, Jen!

Prescott, AZ

O.K. so how big of a bag are we allowed. And you can give Jen a plate, but don't let her or Tami near my floaty with the scissors. Oh and they must leave the cabanna boy alone......

I like the staircase plant shelf. I could stick that in the last corner of the GH.

San Francisco, CA

Co-dependents AND enablers!
Nice photos Mel. Are there any bat plants in that jungle?

(Zone 1)

I haven't visited the Hoya forum in quite awhile .... WOW, I now see what I've been missing!

Meltn ... You have a BEAUTIFUL, Tropical Oasis there in the middle of Tennessee! What do you do with all those wonderful plants in the winter time??
I have a lot of plants, but, Wow - your Jungle beats everything I've ever seen down here! We can grow most stuff outside year round down here but when we have the rare freeze in this part of the state I am rushing trying to cover things with old blankets, and the very "special" things trying to make room indoors for them! I don't know how you do it with working full time! I haven't worked in 15 years and I know I couldn't take care of the plants I have and still work too! Maybe when I was younger, but not now. I have always said that Playing in the Dirt is my Therapy and I know if I had to hold down a job I wouldn't enjoy my plants as much, it would become work ... and I would need a therapist!

You have done an outstanding job .... looks like a Tropical Resort!

Lin

...... p.s. Hubby and I vacation in the Smokies, usually one week every summer and we fly into Knoxville .... they won't let me carry scissors on the plane but I could stop at the nearest Wal-Mart and buy a pair! Are you supplying the sacks? :)

San Francisco, CA

I'll bet nail clippers would work.
