okay...i have to say that these are not for everyone....but they are ME ....they are my YARD;
i already own one...and a friend told me he was buying out an old flower shop and he had these junky planters.....knowing i am a gardener he brought um here...and guess what??
HE HAS ABOUT 2 doz of them!!!! he sold me this for 5 bucks....it is plastic...but doesn't look
plastic.....made by universal statuary in 1965;....eeeeeeeeeeee; they scream cottage.....
they are me!!!! he sez he has some with angels on them... and he has pedastals to go
with them that are ornate and GAUDY.....I AM GAUDY....for sure!@!!!!!
and i can't find a close up of the picture.....thought i had one but alas i don't will take one later for all to view!!!!
LOOK at these great containers!!! COTTAGE GAUDY
Oh now I love those!!!! Chabby chic!!!
Sticks ~ you have made a haul! Can't wait to see how you display things....
Sticks ~ the pedestals in the last post need plants with heighth. Even ferns would have fronds that stand up. Your plants appear to need to be hanging baskets. I would envision either some full and spiky, drapey plants ~ or totally erect ~ like tall sanseveria.
Just a thought and just my opinion. Will watch to see what others see...
pod...what about he plant that is sitting on the ground? it is a gardenia...what do you think about that?
i agree that you need something long and dangling, like ivy....I also think that for the sake of not overdoing it, you should hold a few pieces back, and rotate them from time to time. Especially if they are all going into one area.
I love them though, the look is great! They just need something growing in them for a while to get that "lived in" look...
How does the gardenia look on top of a pedestal and are those blooms I see? Yummmy...
they are blooms....and i will photo...maybe i should just chunk the pedastals...; i was just wanting to 'lift' the plants rather than them being on the concrete....
No way! Don't chunk them... experiment a little. You don't give up THAT quickly!
i SO hate the rearranging thing....my life get so unsettled when stuff is unsettled....i like the idea of bring the eye up....but don't like the combo...will keep thinking
Tell me what plants you have in the pots?
I understand you wanting to get them up off the concrete. I live with a male dog and he wants to help water my plants. Grrrrr....
pod....i am just wanting to get them off the concrete for a visual reason only....i have so many plants on the concrete that i want to add another element to the decor;
as for what plants on the pedastals i have asparagus ferns....in the middle planter on the ground i have a gardenia
I thought they were asparagus ferns. Please don't let me hurt your feelings but each time I look at that photo, I see a head (the pot) covered with wild green hair (the fern) on a tall slender body (the pedestal) I have trouble looking past that but I could visualize a shelf (either white or glass) spanning the two pedestals with a variety of your smaller colorful plants. All would be a frame the lovely gardenia. Please don't be mad at me.... humbly yours, pod
POD - Hello, Dorothy here. I laughed out loud at your description of the tall slender body and the head with wild green hair (I bet Sticks did too.) Here in Hillsborough - one of our resident artists would have embellished those lovely urns and pedestals a tad more...glass rocks...to outline an apron or something.... painted on some gorgeous lips, stuck a bow in the wild 'hair' and turned them EXACTLY into what you have "seen" and sold them in 30 seconds flat as a bit of whimsy for the garden.
I think a fast solution might be to stand the pedestals side by side - nothing in between - and put two matching bright colored/glass flower pots on them (would you consider painting those in the photo Sticks?)
Or if not, maybe antique the pedestals - to get the bright white gone?
PS I LOVE the entrance and the way you have used the florist pots/pedestals. The height of the arbor entrance is just what was needed to show it all off.
pod...thanks so much for your honesty....and no my feelings are not hurt; when away from the whole situation i was able to HONESTLY see ....those dang pedastals are not the theme of my back patio....my back patio is more mediteranian....not that cheruby ...cottagey ...shabby chic thing that i have going on in the front; so i am going to remove them ....
those pedastals were going in the trash...and i told my friend ...NO don't trash....; i have my antique store that i can take them to....or i just need to step away and rework...
i have this thing about everything being merchandised on the floor....hate it hate it....i like levels...but the peds are not what i need.....; thanks so much for your input....:)
missingrosie....thanks for the feedback on the front; i am more pleased with that look, but need to try to dream up some plant that will have a small root base....yet take full hot sun from the end of the day and yet look cottagey.....i am wondering about run of the mill english ivy?......(i am also talking to myself) as you can see...
as for the back....i just think the peds need to go from that area...it is more of a tropically mediteranian....not cottagey shabby chic gaudy paris crapola(grin)....what the heck am i doing? anyway...thanks for the extra ideas..i think that is how the ultimate solution is created by brainstorming:)
I am sorry ~ I really didn't want to jeopardize a DG friendship. Please don't trash the pedestals. At some point, they will be exactly what you are looking for. I do love ya Sticks but I got scared off by the propagation nation.... lol
i am not gonna trash um....just going to remove them till something else NEEDS them and that they will be perfect for....; i had thought about some type of tabley thing....but not right now...
propagation nation....grinnnnnnnnnn:)
Sticks -- I think you should remove them from the back patio, box them up, and send them to Nebraska. ;-)
Seriously, I love what you've done out front by the gate. I'm sure you'll come up with something clever for the others; you're very talented in that way.
daltri...thanks so much for the compliment....i will have to take a photo of the whole front yard expanse....that will explain why i have so dang much at the entry way....my yard is LLLLOOOONNNNNG....and i need something to chop it up visually...i still have an infant yard in that i only started planting stuff on the arbor and fence this year...one of these years it will look like a great pair of jeans... worn and comfy....but not yet:)
I like it. It looks inviting and from other posts, your plants seem to be happy as well. With all of the white and the big shade trees, it looks cool and refreshing, a get away from the summer heat.
Hi sticks,
Love your new pots and pedestals. They look wonderful in the front, flanking the arbor. The right side with the cat looks especially good. The bigger lower pots on that side have enough weight to balance the tall pedestals, as do the chairs. Think big bold and balanced. It doesn't have to match but should have equal balance. I think you should use all of the pedestals along the fence. Use the fence posts to determine where to place the next pedestals. Try spreading out the lower pots. If it was me I'd try doing a simple tall at the arbor, one lower pot (chair) between the arbor post and the next post. Then tall at the next post followed by short between. What fun.
semp...thanks for those suggestions...boy my eyes started fuzzing over when trying to visualize....maybe the ADD or ADHD....; okay...so let me see if i get this correct....
1.arbor posts have the tall pedastal & urn and fern(that is currently there).....
2 then centered in the first fence panel to either side of the arbor....the benches? are you wanting a plant on bench? or beside or in front of?
(by the way the pots with the pink flowers on the side WITHOUT the cat are not normally there....)
3 move to next fence post and place pedestal with plant on it? which pot?
4 then what?
okie dokie thank you so much:)
No, really - I think you should send one or two of those pedestals to ME! I think they're very cool looking! Great find!
You'll find a way that suits you, don't pressure yourself for a perfect arrangement immediately. They'll be great.
pagan....thanks, i finally have them settled in...; i was a little overwhelmed but ok now....:)
Oh, good...
....gosh, guess I *should* take a look at the last posting dates, huh?
naahhhhhh dates are not important....mental state is...(grin)
I don't think my mental state is even in the Union!
Sticks, I can't tell you how much I covet your pedestals!!! If you don't want them all the same height, another trick is to slip a couple of square pavers under one. I really like the look you are starting to get with all the containers and that BEAUTIFUL vine, is it potato vine? Such a pretty color.
Pat
yup it is potatoe vine
