Orchid Tree has no orchids , why?

(Zone 11)

My grandmother planted this tree about 4 years ago and it has bloomed only once I think.
The tree is about 15 feet tall , looks healthy but no flowers. I'm about to prune it to the very buttom.
I don't like it at all without the flowers. Is there anything I can do for it?

I want one of these trees. There is someone in my neighborhood who has one and they clip all the limbs off once a yearafter it's blooms die. It blooms each year from September to November. After the blooms die you will have a bunch of seed pods.......

At this time you should mail me some! LOL Rock like..ON!!!

Try Azalea fertilzer. I know the bloom season here is in the spring, not sure about other places. The fertilizer is an acidic fertilzer, for gardenias, azaleas and plants that require the high acidic.
I have two trees, so experimented...fertilized one and left the other. 2 weeks later the fertilzed one was producing blooms. Mabe luck...but worth a try.

As a matter of fact I think I did save some from when it bloomed.

I had read something where Florida was trying to ban the orchid trees as they were adapting too well crowding out native stuff..Not sure where I read that.

This bauhinia tree,is healthy ....almost too heathy the tree is full of nitrogen. The bottom line on it is you will need to have it pruned before branches snap. Give this tree a fertilizer with a number like 10-50-10,just make sure the middle # is the largest % and that the first # is low....you will get flowers this way ...the extra nitrogen could have come in the form of rain! Enjoy your garden Lance
