Anyone Growing Raspberries??

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I just have to get some of these! I love the berries, and they are so expensive in the stores!

I think it's too hot for rasberries to grow in Texas.

Not the Black ones...

Are you talking about rasberries, blackberries, or dewberries?

Yep, it's too hot for them here in the summer.

Thanks for your opinion....I grow Gallica Roses here too and I was told that was not possible, but they grow and bloom...

Melva, I'm sorry if I offended you. It was not my intention. I've never heard of anyone around North Texas growing rasberries, but maybe it can be done. I was looking through the plant files and it looks like you are within the hardiness range for most cultivars. They do need acidic soil, and I don't know about yours but my soil is extremely alkaline. By all means, try to grow them, and maybe I can get some cuttings from you if it goes well. Good luck!

No offense was taken...
I am stubborn and push the zone for Roses, so why not Raspberries, too? Apparently if they are heavily mulched, so the crown of the plant stays somewhat cool, it can be done and the PH of the soil...we have alkaline soil here also, but the Berries will be in a raised bed, so I can make that pocket, acid...
