Today's butterfly photos

Was out at the ranch and got some photos of butterflies.

I putter around the back fields in my golf cart and always carry bottles of water as well as butterfly bait (a blended brew made of bananas, brown sugar and a bottle of guinness stout). I usually pour a bit on the old posts and tree trunks out there to treat the butterflies. I'd seen some Leafwings flitting about so I decided to open up the bottle to see if the "aroma" would attract them. Didn't take long for these two to find the source!!!

Funny thing...I kept driving around the back roads and every time I'd stop to take photos of other butterflies a leafwing or two would hone in on the open bottle. Am sure if I had a rearview mirror on the golf cart I would have seen a few following me around the ranch!!!

...and gobs of butterflies on scat. UGH!!!

...remember, I said I carry bottles of water with me...well, adding that to scat 're-activates' the stench and really attracts the butterflies - I also pour water on the dirt at times...since the ranch is so dry (doesn't rain much at all) butterflies will come quickly to scent of wet dirt.

There were gobs of Ceraunus Blues, Common Checkered Skippers, Turk's Cap Skippers, Bordered Patches and a Leafwing or two.

ps...I added red dots to point out all the butteflies. There's a blue dot near the middle...some type of black and white beetle.

Ummm...cool...gross...ummm, both! ;) I love that 2nd pic. What a sweet little thing!
