Having trouble finding a source for Buckeye chicks. Anyone know one?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Meyer hatchery has them listed as limited availability.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I was going to get some from Meyer but by the time I was ready to order, the dates for availability were pretty far out and we wanted to get started.

Woodsville, NH

I am curious, why buckeyes? I am looking to add to my laying crew next year. I read they are a brown egg layer but thats all I know
Thanks in advance!

Buckeyes must be the "State Chicken" and Badseed is from Ohio .... kinda like Delaware has their Blue Chickens. We don't have our own chicken breed here in Washington (darn).

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Badseed, is your county or state fair anytime soon? I'll bet you could find someone at the fair's poultry show who could sell you chicks.

Sandhilll Preservation Center is in Ohio and they have Buckeyes but their last hatching date is just past.

http://www.sandhillpreservation.com/catalog/chickens.html (They have bantam Buckeyes too.)

Ideal Poultry carries them but they're sold out.

Chose Buckeyes because they're a good egg and meat chicken (and because my wife is from Ohio and proud of it!)

Antrim, NH

Photographer, you should breed one! We'll call it the Photographer Phancy! and it will be the state bird in Washington.

BackyardHens,

I'd like to have new bird for Washington like the Iowa Blue ..... that is seriously reputed to be part Chinese Ringneck Pheasant and mostly Barred Rock. What a gene pool! How about a chicken that is a 25% / 75% mix of Guinea Fowl and Game Fowl that is not sterile? Any Frankensteins out there in cyberspace up to it?

I've had my fill of chickens from Sandhill Preservation. Sandhill is a terrific source for seeds (pricey) ..... but I strongly recommend people buy chickens elsewhere due to the inflated prices they charge. Plus they seem to have an extremely limited ability to meet a timetable when delivering chicks to clients. Service is not their "forte". I have no doubt they are decent honest business people .... it is their business model what I take issue with. Kelly
