Appear to be 1 gal size for $5.95 and 3 gal size - didn't get that price though. I saw dwarf Gardenia and August Beauty, I believe. They had Daisy Gardenia during the spring, but I didn't see it this go around.
FYI, Gardenias back at HD!!!
Also Olive Tree (?? I think that's what it was called)....not hardy in 7A...wondering if anyone has successfully over wintered one of these???
Hey Chantall, Mickey here. Bougie is doing great , even in a horrible drought. My twin sis Lorraine want's an olive tree, and swears it could make it here, but I can't find where to buy one. I have one Gardenia that is about 10 yrs. old , and came back from the freeze on Easter Sunday, and is surviving the worst drought in 118 years. I got it at Lowes and I think it is an August Beauty, but it is tough. I'll send you some cuttings if you like. I might add that I have lost several other Gardenias that were supposed to be hardy to zone 6.
Yes, I'm thanking God for our recent rains...even though the wind broke one of my Plumeria in 1/2...ugh!!!
As for the Olive tree - could your Lowes or HD (I need to see which one had them...I think it was Lowes) request a transfer of one down to you? They are big - at least 3 gal size so shipping would be horrific cost wise. I really don't believe they're hardy to our areas, though...so it would probably need to be over wintered indoors or a garage.
You are so sweet re the August Beauty cuttings - I actually bought a total of SIX gardenias this past spring (I'm bad, I know). The August Beauty is the only one that doesn't appear to have made it. I'd love to know your secrets with it!!
Are they olive trees, or are they Osmanthus fragrans which goes by the name of Sweet Olive? True olive trees will grow fine around here, but I don't think I've ever seen them for sale at HD but I've seen the Osmanthus there from time to time.
ecrane - I'll need to go by there and check it out tonight. I do remember the tag showing they weren't hardy to zone 7 - mick is in 6 so it wouldn't be hardy for her either - whatever it was. :)
Mick - I will check tonight though, just to make sure.
You'd be borderline for the Osmanthus fragrans--I think it's hardy to 7b. It has really gorgeous smelling flowers, not super attractive when it's not blooming, but the scent definitely makes it worthwhile!
I'm printing this and taking it with me!! Might have to pic one up then. Doesn't matter what they look like if the scent is right!! I don't find Tuberoses all that attractive - even when in bloom...but that scent...wowzers!!
