Hi folks
I have to tell you that A Touch of the Tropics is closing at the end of September after 8 years. I'm afraid that the cost of energy (propane and electricity) have taken their toll and for me to continue I might as well wear the uniform of the gas companies because that's who I would be working for.
I want to thank all of you who have been a part of our lives and for those who supported us. This is a great group and I'll miss you all.
I will confess that I have been pilfering from myself to add to my collection at home. I have been taking some of those nice new varieties from the greenhouses and it's fun to be able to concentrate on my own garden again after so long.
Good luck to you all. We will be leaving the web site up for a long while for those who want to use the help information there.
David

I'm closing
Oh David, I am so sorry to hear that. No one ships prettier, bigger or healthier plants than you do. But, I know you will enjoy having fewer responsibilities and more playtime in your own garden. Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
alice
p.s. you have dmail.

Wow, I'm SO sorry to hear this, David! I agree with Ardesia that you really have sold me the nicest plants :-)
Best of luck in whatever you decide to do next...
karen
David, hope all works out for you.Enjoy your hobbies.
Thanks for all the help!
Kyle :-)
David, so sorry to hear that! I've really enjoyed the plants I got from you this year. Good luck in whatever you do next! I hope you'll continue to hang out with us here on the hibiscus forum at least!
I can understand your concerns over heating bills. Here's hoping that you enjoy your retirement from the business end of hibiscus growing and that we will still see you here often showing us your beautiful flowers.
David, thanks for all the beautiful plants that I have received from you.
A Touch of the Tropics will be missed by many, especially here.
I wish you good luck with your future endeavors.
Best regards,
Dave
David,
Consider my Tarantella pic today, in honor of you! All my babies from you survived the swamp flood and the heat stroke. Wild at Heart is gorgeous, as is Tarantella and others.
Thank you soooooooooo much for a part of the beauty in my backyard.
PS....does this mean I can't send you any more pics of the evolution of my garden?
I hope not, because you have been there from the beginning :)
Cathy
Thanks Cat and yes, keep sending those pics. Your garden is beautiful.
David
Oh too bad!! I am really sorry to hear this. I wish you all the best David and know you will be a success in whatever you choose. You and your wife are such nice people!
Zuzu, what cultivar is that? I really like the bloom :-)
karen
That one's called Eye of the Storm, Karen. I bought it from David more than a year ago in a hanging pot and I just love it.
Ahh, I should have guessed. I love that cultivar and bid on it once on Ebay. It wasn't David's auction though, and I don't remember the seller. I got outbid :-(
karen
Such a pretty, Alice!! Great photo.
David I sent you a dmail. did you receive?
Hi
I'm sorry I didn't see your dmail. I just sent you one though. Sorry about that.
ok David,
Fess up. What do you still have left, that is NOT on your site. We want to know!!!
You should come to Morocco and grow Hibiscus here...no heating needed. I am always taken aback when I see the huge hibiscus bushes, and bougainvilles grow like weed here, too. If you could get them through customs ok, you could make a fortune selling those to European customers...I never even knew there existed and other color than red and pink...
Hi Cat
You asked. A little scary as I only have one or maybe two of some of these. Most are beauties though.
Cool It
Tropical Splash
Buff Beauty
Black Dragon
One Purple Goddess
Red Dragonette
Madame Dupont
Wood You
Silver Memories
Climax
Night Fire
Theres a couple more as well but these are the ones not on the site.
David
I'm sending you a dmail :)
dmail sent.
I'm sorry to hear this David...The plants I ordered from you were lovely. You're a conscientious businessman and a lovely person.
On the flip side: Way to go Mr. Gardener!!! WOO HOO!!! Think of all that puttering in the garden that's ahead of you! Now you get to play!
Super best to you...
Liz
