Is this a "Y" forming?

Pretoria, South Africa

I started my seed before winter in my greenhouse as I wanted to give them a head start. They remained small, but were doing okay. The past two weeks they've put on a lot of new leaves. The I noticed this plant has what looks like a "Y". Only thing is it is about 6" high. Any comments?

Hi Elsa! Do you think that the growing tip could have been damaged somehow? If it was perhaps it is branching because of the injury. Joelle

Hi Elsa,
Once in a while a tiny brug will develop a "Y" when very small, but, it's too small to produce flowers. It looks like maybe a leaf broke off at some point, and you are getting new growth close to where the leaf was broken.

From what I understand, a brug doesn't usually make a "Y" until it is at least 2 - 3 feet tall. At that point, it is mature enough to produce flowers.

Hope that helped!

I had some kind of caterpillar do damage like that on some of my seedlings.. there was a hole and the new growth had to compensate by growing out the side.. the plant was fine in all three incidents. But it is not a Y. :(

I've had 2 brugs that were just starting to Y, and formed buds lower down like they just couldn't wait. So it could be possible! Wish I had taken a pic. --A

Hi Jan,
No, it is putting on lots of leaves, but other than that not much. Seeing that it will officially be Spring as from tomorrow, I hope it to grow it's socks off!
